She added that nine others were injured, including six left in a critical condition. In addition two adults are also in a critical condition. All injuries were as a result of stab wounds
In just about any reading, the removal of the rule is all but inevitable, with Premier League games on US soil surely soon to follow – whether sanctioned league matches or as part of an extra or rebranded cup competition. “We’ve got seven Premier League clubs in London but when you look at the way the Premier League works, a lot of the revenue they receive is TV rights,” the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, told the Sports Agents podcast. Most estimates peg commercial revenues from pre-season tours to be more than $10m for Premier League clubs, so it’s no wonder Europe’s biggest teams now make the United States a regular stop. It’s the kind of mainstream exposure to a soccer star that is rarely seen in the US outside World Cups. So while these summer friendlies might be meaningless, it would be prudent to enjoy them as much as you can while they last.
The chancellor has unveiled plans to scrap winter fuel payments for pensioners not on benefits as part of sweeping changes she said were needed to fill a £22bn spending shortfall that was 'covered up' by the Conservative government. Justifying the planned cuts, Rachel Reeves told the Commons: 'Not to act is simply not an option.' Announcing 30 October as the date of the autumn budget, she added that it would 'involve taking difficult decisions to meet our fiscal rules across spending, welfare and tax', paving the way for probable tax increases
Renting in London is a money paradox that leaves thousands of young people struggling to save enough for a deposit after their monthly housing costs. You apply for a mortgage in principle and put down a one per cent deposit. If approved, you can move into their home and make monthly payments – pegged to the area’s average monthly rents and your own finances – to build up to a five per cent deposit. Their one per cent deposit for a £400,000 two-bed was just £4,000, and their monthly payments are £2,000. “Upon completion, we should have about a five per cent deposit ready to put down for the place,” explained Sam.
Britain's Labour finance minister Rachel Reeves declared Monday that the public finances face an extra £22-billion hole inherited from the previous Conservative administration and warned of "difficult decisions" ahead to cut spending or hike taxes. "If left unaddressed, it would mean a 25-percent increase in the budget deficit this year," she told lawmakers, citing a detailed audit of the public purse. - 'Not sustainable' -"So I will today set out the necessary and urgent work that I have already done to reduce that pressure on the public finances by £5.5 billion this year and over £8.0 billion next year." Before the election, Reeves vowed to exercise "iron discipline" over the public finances -- and slammed the disastrous 2022 mini-budget during the short-lived premiership of Liz Truss. Ahead of Monday's statement, The Sunday Times newspaper and other media had already reported that Reeves' team had identified an additional public finances black hole of around £20 billion.
For critics of government policy, this framing made it easy to pick holes in aspects of the expert advice, and to focus criticisms on scientific advisers, rather than political decision makers. Other options were ruled out or, more precisely, never ruled in, because of imagined public opposition. Public statements at the time suggest that scientific advisers adapted to this imagined notion of a freedom-loving public, newly liberated by the Brexit referendum. Imagined public 2: the uniform and united publicAs the crisis worsened, existing inequalities were thrown into sharp relief. In these cases, we see two versions of an imagined public co-constructed by policy makers and scientific advisers, despite contradictory or non-existent evidence.

[Getty Images]Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell says Motherwell need to dramatically improve following Sunday's disappointing showing against Partick Thistle, and stressed they cannot solely rely on incoming striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos. Kettlewell's side were booed by sections of their support after a goalless draw with the Championship side, with Stamatelopoulos watching on before his medical with the club. "I need to stress that he doesn’t become the dramatic saviour to what was a really poor performance," Kettlewell said. He’s played an All Star game, and he’s been training for a couple of weeks over in Australia. His wife has just had a baby there on Tuesday, which has sort of interrupted the flow but he’s at a reasonable stage.
New York Times: “On Friday night, he appeared before religious leaders in West Palm Beach, Fla. The next afternoon, he was in Nashville, yukking it up with thousands of crypto-evangelists at a Bitcoin conference.”“The two groups could hardly be less alike, and Mr. Trump — neither a pious man, nor technologically savvy one — made for an unlikely champion at each. And yet, taken together, the two appearances provided a case study in how he code switches — from Christianity to crypto — as he campaigns.”“He begs, he blusters, he makes outlandish promises. And his attempts to win over a crowd that is not inherently his own can be acutely awkward.”
The Government must tackle the “alarming proliferation of deepfake pornography” in Britain, a Guardian journalist has said. Deepfake pornography uses AI tools to generate pornographic images of real people. Sharing deepfake pornography, cyberflashing or downblousing images became a criminal offence earlier this year, but creating such content is still legal. In addition, she warned that such pornography is being “sold openly on social media”, including advertisements on Instagram, TikTok and X. Let’s hope that protecting the victims of sexual abuse and stemming the tide of deepfake pornography is part of this.”LabourEarlier this year, a Labour Party think tank called for a ban on “nudification” tools.
While the time trial course at the Olympics seemed to have been tailor-made for Adam Peaty, thanks to the heavy rainfall that turned Paris’ streets into a sodden crash-fest, over in Portugal things are on the somewhat hotter side. Maurício Moreira abandona a Volta a Portugal. However, with the race disappearing up the road, the 29-year-old soon succumbed to the inevitable. “Mauri was flown to the Guarda Hospital for tests, but he is doing well and with us,” the team said. “A difficult moment for our squad, but we will try to reverse it.”Brutal sport, indeed.

The King’s Speech last week introduced the Product Safety and Metrology Bill, allowing government ministers to follow European regulations as they’re brought in, without reference to Parliament. (Exporters would still need to prove that products meet European standards when they enter the European single market. There is still some talk of eliminating the Windsor Framework, but all but the most stalwart of TUV true believers must know that idea is fantasy. It will offer a plan to reduce the Windsor Framework over time by gradually aligning Britain with the EU Single Market as NI already is. Will they spend the coming years in an ever more doomed attempt to eliminate the Windsor Framework, or come around to accepting reality?
