Tesla Navigates Controversy Over Elon Musk's Self-Driving Project Focus on Musk's Driving Raises Questions Amidst Regulatory ScrutinyIn the high-stakes world of autonomous driving, Tesla's ambitions to lead the way have sparked a host of controversies and challenges. Central to these debates is the ongoing struggle Elon Musk faces in trying to bring reliability and safety to Tesla's so-called "Full Self-Driving" (FSD) technology. Meanwhile, this privileged treatment raises questions about the objectivity and reliability of the self-driving technology being rolled out to regular consumers. As this saga evolves, the intertwining narratives of Musk's ambitious vision, investor confidence, and the increasing pressure from regulatory agencies will continue to shape the future of Tesla's autonomous driving initiatives. The outcome will likely determine not just the fate of Musk's aspirations but also the broader trajectory of self-driving technology and its acceptance in society.

Social services minister Amanda Rishworth says the inquiry was 'a key moment in our nation’s history' and uncovered 'appalling experiences of abuse and neglect and discrimination against people with disability'. The Australian government has accepted, or accepted in principle, 130 of the royal commission's 172 recommendations that the commonwealth has sole or joint responsibility for, she says. More than $200m of the $371m package will go to employment services programs, while a Disability Rights Act is still under 'sequencing'

Harris is calibrating her policy pitch for going to battle with TrumpWASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris is facing the delicate task of calibrating her policy pitch to American voters, a standard task for any White House hopeful but one that comes with additional challenges this year. First, Harris is running for president while serving under President Joe Biden, meaning she's linked to anything that happened — or will happen — on his watch. Second, Harris has baggage from her own failed campaign for president before she became Biden's running mate four years ago. “You’re building the plane while you’re flying it,” said Bakari Sellers, a Harris ally who co-chaired her campaign four years ago. Although Trump is hardly consistent when it comes to policy proposals, Berg said there's more risk to Harris because she's less well-known and public views on her can still be shaped.

It was one of the first days of summer break, and a group of young girls was dancing to Taylor Swift songs in a studio on a quiet street in Southport, in northwest England. As the class, which also included yoga and bracelet making, was drawing to an end on Monday morning, an attacker walked in and rampaged through the room with a knife, stabbing the children and two adults. Two girls — Bebe King, 6, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7 — died of their injuries on Monday, the Merseyside Police said in a statement, while a third, 9-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar, died in the hospital early Tuesday. Eight other children were injured, five of whom remain in critical condition in the hospital, along with two adults who had tried to protect them, the police said. The question of why such an unremarkable summer morning, filled with dancing and fun, had turned to horror was on the minds of many residents of Southport, a seaside town of about 95,000 people, on Tuesday as they grappled with the violence that had visited their quiet community.

The Liverpool Region Mosque Network posted a statement decrying the “heinous” stabbing as an attack against society that was unconnected to Islam. Twenty-two officers were hurt, with eight suffering from more serious injuries that included fractures, lacerations and a concussion. “Keep smiling and dancing like you love to do our princess,” Aguiar’s parents said in a statement released by police. An emotional crowd that gathered in Southport outside The Atkinson theater and museum in the early evening held a minute of silence for the victims. “It’s unbelievable that we find ourselves laying flowers for little girls who just wanted to dance,” she said.

Large portions of England and Wales braced for considerable heat on Tuesday, with government officials issuing an alert for vulnerable people and meteorologists warning it would be the hottest day of the year so far. The heat in Britain may also stir up sweaty memories of a string of brutally hot days across the country in July 2022, when schools, doctors’ offices and museums shut their doors while the government urged people to work from home. In Britain, few people have air conditioning at home, and much of the country’s housing stock was built to retain heat. Transport delays in very hot or very cold weather are not uncommon. “Much of the U.K. is entering a warm or even hot interlude of weather, with some places in England and Wales likely to meet heat-wave criteria in the coming days,” Frank Saunders, the chief meteorologist at the Met Office, Britain’s national weather service, said in a news release on Tuesday.
