India’s attempt to secure a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has been blocked by Pakistan as it highlighted the failure of the country to meet relevant requirements. This is a win for us and the credit for this must go to our diplomatic team at the UN headquarters. Pakistan put forth a case against India in the UNSC which stated that time and time again, India has violated UNSC resolutions. Our diplomatic efforts have been focused on proving that India is acting as a tyrant and bully in the region and we have done so through platforms like the UN. Blocking its attempt to secure a permanent seat was the first step in a line of countless others that will enable some positive action to be taken in the future.

Now, the detailed judgement, addressing almost all of the criticisms aimed at it, has been issued by the Supreme Court, clarifying to the general public and the detractors what non-partisan legal experts understood at the time of the short order. It is hoped that the detailed judgement is clear enough for all parties, and that keeping the spirit of the judgement, which stresses a strong opposition and a functioning government, this chapter can be closed and those in power will shift their priorities to the pressing needs of the country. For PTI, it must stop looking to drag institutions in politics through constant referencing. For the coalition government, looking to go on the offensive against PTI leaders and dragging the matter is only going to fan the flames higher. The political void in governance and uncertainty which was caused by this unfortunate political crisis affected every single citizen of Pakistan, all of whom were caught in the turmoil that loomed large in the country, and it is time that it is put to rest.

When it comes to Ahmadis, it seems we have lost our collective sanity and have become blinded by petty hatred. We actually try to outdo each other in expressing hate against a community which numbers only four million. This hatred is so intense that we won’t shed a tear even if they are killed in large numbers. In Pakistan’s case, whenever tragedy struck, society always rose above ethnic, linguistic, and communal differences and stood united in condemnation and grief. These laws have given the religious right further impetus to spew more venom against the Ahmadis, which in turn has also intensified hatred against them in society.
