Fresh from the Punjab setback, the ruling coalition parties on Thursday demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the verdict reserved in the prohibited funding case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as soon as possible. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tweeted that the best example of protecting the blue-eyed boy, a reference to PTI chief Imran Khan, was the prohibited funding case. “All coalition parties demand that the decision on the foreign funding case should be announced immediately,” Sanaullah said, adding that more than 300 companies were involved. “If Imran Khan's hands are clean, why is he running away from this case?”Kaira said demanded of the ECP to announce the decision of the prohibited foreign funding case. She said the verdict should be announced in the PTI foreign funding case for the sake of national security, national interest and justice as soon as possible.

LAHORE – The Punjab government has imposed section 144 in the province to maintain law and order during the first 10 days of the Muharram. Notification further states that carrying licensed weapons is also prohibited during the sensitive days of Muharram-ul-Haram. He said that as per the direction of the Punjab government, arrangements related to Muharram would be monitored on daily basis. Preparatory work was being carried out in Nishter Town, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Model Town, Iqbal Town, Ravi Town, Samanabad, Wagha and Aziz Bhatti towns. The commissioner said that infrastructure work on main procession routes should be completed in the next two days.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan has agreed to sign the “Charter of Economy” (CoE) to take the country out of the current financial crisis. The CoE has been prepared by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). The PTI chairman expressed his willingness to sign the CoE in a meeting with the delegation of the chamber. A senior leader of the RCCI termed the meeting with the PTI chairman beneficial and his agreement to the CoE a “welcome sign” for the business community. Islamabad: The US dollar continued to gain value against the Pakistani rupee on Thursday, the rupee hits another low at 240 per USD in the interbank market, it has lost around four rupees compared to the previous close of 236.02 per USD. On Wednesday, the US dollar increased by Rs3.09 against rupee in the interbank and traded at Rs236.02. In open market, the greenback traded between Rs238 and Rs239. The rupee is under constant pressure, market analyst point towards political instability which poses a threat to Pakistan’s economy. Worries over Pakistan’s funding needs including the delay in revival of IMF program, a massive current-account deficit, and high inflation are all compounding, putting pressure on the local currency.
