Ghana’s Embassy in Tripoli in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration has today repatriated a total of 165 Ghanaians from Libya to Ghana. Meanwhile, the Embassy and the IOM in October last year facilitated the repatriation of the fourth batch of 169 Ghanaians from Tripoli to Accra under the Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) programme for the year 2023. A third batch of returnees of 134 Ghanaian nationals were repatriated from the city of Misrata, voluntarily to Ghana, on 10th October, 2023 under the same program. This brings the total number of Ghanaian nationals who had benefitted from the VHR programme in 2023 to 629.

The bodies of 13 Sudanese migrants have been recovered and 27 others are missing after a boat sank on Wednesday off the coast of Tunisia having set off from Sfax, a Tunisian judicial official said on Thursday. The boat was carrying 42 people, all of them Sudanese, and two people were rescued, Judge Farid Ben Jha said. Tunisia replaced Libya as North Africa’s main departure point for people fleeing poverty and conflict elsewhere in Africa and across the Middle East in the hope of a better life in Europe. Libya’s state National Oil Corporation announced today that its subsidiary, Mellitah Oil and Gas Company, was able, today, to resume exploration for well A1 in the Abu Attifel field. The NOC said the results of initial tests were a production of 2,773 barrels of oil per day, up from 700 barrels. It said this resumed exploration well comes in implementation of its strategic plan to increase production.

Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced yesterday that as part of its sustainable development plans for 2024-2025, it is launching 35 projects in the oil producing Wahat oases region (Awjla – Jalo – Ijkhira) in southeast Libya.
