As regional powers, the two states decided to reduce tensions and align ranks to create a new regional order based on managing conflicts and neutrality. The aim is to achieve the most interests possible of Egypt and Turkey in hopes to impose a new regional and geopolitical equation that obligates relative stability in the region. Companies from the two countries participate in reconstruction in Somalia and Turkey has its biggest external military base in the East African state. LONDON: Libya’s interim prime minister on Wednesday said he expected to be the last head of a transitional government in the country and that political and economic reforms were beginning to take hold. Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah told delegates that he “wanted oxygen to return to the body of Libya,” and that the rebuild of the country was moving forward at pace. Addressing the summit, Dbeibah said: “We announce that we will be the last transitional government, God willing. He noted that, since the discovery of oil in Libya, fuel support to citizens had been provided with a liter of gasoline in Libya currently costing three cents. “We decided, in fact, to replace fuel subsidies by paying this support directly into the pockets of Libyans,” he added.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations chief warned Tuesday that climate chaos and food crises are increasing threats to global peace, telling a high-level U.N. meeting that climate disasters imperil food production and “empty bellies fuel unrest. “Climate and conflict are two leading drivers of (our) global food crisis,” the secretary-general said. Simon Stiell, the United Nations climate chief, told the council that climate change is contributing to food insecurity and to conflict. Framework Convention on Climate Change said the Security Council “must acknowledge more can be done rather than hoping the problem will go away — which it won’t.”The U.N.’s most powerful body should be requesting regular updates on climate security risks, he said. But climate change, environmental and security pressures have led to increased tensions and competition between herders and farmers for scarce resources including water and land, she said.

The Benghazi Chamber of Commerce reported that 28 Tunisian companies working in 50 sectors made presentations at today’s Libyan-Tunisian Trade Forum. The Forum was launched in cooperation with Emaar Libya Holding Company, the Tunisian Export Promotion Center (Centre de Promotion des Exportations de la Tunisie – CEPEX), and the Commercial Attaché at the Tunisian Embassy – Libya in the Garyounis Conference Hall in the city of Benghazi. The Tunisian companies covered the commercial, industrial, service, health, food, construction, construction, engineering and consulting activities, as well as oil and concrete processing, water and sanitation, environment, occupational safety and health care sectors. On the sidelines of the forum, joint meetings and meetings were held between Libyan and Tunisian companies to exchange information and data and enhance opportunities for communication and joint commercial cooperation took place. The Attorney General announced yesterday that the Criminal Court has issued a ruling convicting six employees of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL). The employees were convicted of the deliberate theft of equipment and supplies used to establish the electrical supply network and its maintenance. They were sentenced to ten years in prison and fined LD 1.466 million.

Government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have pledged to ensure that the 143 Ghanaian migrants who voluntarily decided to return from Libya are properly integrated into society. The returnees are part of a larger group of over 5,000 Ghanaians who have received assistance through the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa, led by the International Organization for Migration – Ghana, since 2017. Under this initiative, the International Organization for Migration, in collaboration with the government, aims to reintegrate the migrants into Ghanaian society. Speaking to the media, Chief of Mission for IOM Ghana, Fatou Diallo Ndiaye revealed that their support for these returnees extends beyond the airport. A total of 143 Ghanaians who travelled to Libya in pursuit of bet­ter opportunities were voluntarily brought back home on Thursday night via a chartered flight. This brings to total 5,142 Gha­naians who have willingly returned since 2017 under the International Organisation for Migration’s (IOM) Voluntary Humanitarian Return Assistance Programme. Last year, the IOM, supported by the Migrant Protection, Return, and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA), funded by the European Union, facilitated the safe return of 629 Ghanaians: 555 men, 58 women, and 16 children, via four chartered flights from Libya. Emphasising the pivotal role of the youth in the country’s growth, Ms Ndiaye encouraged them to leverage their competences for the development of Ghana and the families for whom they travelled. Additionally, the IOM and part­ners will support the migrants in developing comprehensive reinte­gration plans that address econom­ic, social, and psychosocial needs.
