Kisumu County government has appealed for helicopters from the national government agencies to help in the evacuation of people marooned by floods in Kisumu County. Governor Anyang' Nyong'o on Sunday noted that more than 600 people are locked in their homes, business premises, health facilities and on the roads by the floods. He said the Ahero bridge on the busy Kisumu- Nairobi-Kisii-Homa Bay and Migori was flooded disrupting transport. The governor noted that they are working closely with the National government through their Multi-Agency committee to help the people. "We appeal to well-wishers willing to donate food and non-food items to visit our collection centre at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex in Kisumu," he added.

Kirinyaga - Police have launched investigations following the death of a 29-year-old woman and her 5-year-old child in Kabironi village, Kirinyaga county. Moreen Wangui fell and drowned in River Nyamindi in Kirinyaga county. Wachira said police officers are presently working together with the residents in a bid to retrieve the bodies from the river. The shocked family said the woman had visited her grandparents and was last seen washing clothes before she mysteriously disappeared. Russia has likely been recruiting Cuban nationals to fight in its army in Ukraine, research by the BBC has shown. In September and October 2023, passport details belonging to over 200 Cubans who allegedly joined the Russian army were leaked online by a pro-Ukrainian platform called InformNapalm. A Facebook search has shown that 31 of the names mentioned in the Ukrainian leak match accounts whose owners appear to be in Russia or linked to the Russian army. Some, for instance, have posted photos of themselves wearing Russian military uniform, or in locations that bear Russian street signs or Russian number plates.
