Nine people died over the last 24 hours due to floods-related incidences bringing the national death toll to 228. Ferrell has reportedly bought a "large" stake in the US-based 49ers Enterprises group that owns the Elland Road side. The United States Government will open the 2025 Diversity Visa selection results Saturday at midnight. This year’s (2023) Green Card Lottery is called the DV2025 Lottery. Amidst the chaos of emergencies, the inadequacy of disaster management funds becomes starkly evident. Institutions tasked with responding to emergencies and disasters, whether natural or otherwise, are expected to play pivotal roles in Kenya's disaster management framework. Over the years, budgetary allocations for disaster management have seen incremental increases. Nairobi City County stands out as an exception, with 90 per cent of its approved disaster budget for the year already disbursed.

Body of 5-year-old girl recovered from Nyamindi River: Mother still missingThe body of the five-year-old girl who drowned with her mother in the Nyamindi River in Kirinyaga County has been found. However, her mother’s body is yet to be recovered following the incident on Saturday, May 4, which has left everyone baffled. The mother, Maureen Wangui, 29, jumped into the swollen river with her daughter strapped to her back and was swept downstream. The area police commander, Mr Johnson Wachira, said the child’s body had been taken to the morgue while the search for her mother’s body continued. “We are still in mourning and we are calling on the government to ensure that the mother’s body is also found,” said one of the relatives, Stephen Maembe.

At least three people died following a grisly road accident near Nakuru Teachers College on the Nakuru - Eldoret highway. The accident involved a 14-seater matatu and a truck on Saturday afternoon. Some 13 others were injured and were admitted to hospital, police and hospital officials said. Nakuru Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. James Waweru said the other passengers are receiving treatment at the facility. Fatal accidents have been on the rise amid calls on authorities and other stakeholders to take measures to address the trend.

President Ruto says the government is mobilizing resources to offer those affected with shelter, food and medication among other forms of mitigation and response. It developed a detailed Disaster Management Plan that could have been very effective had it been implemented by successive governments. The National Policy for Disaster Management in Kenya, released by the Minister for Special Programmes in March 2009 pointed out strengths and opportunities that existed in the disaster management system at the time. The policy also provided for an integrated and coordinated Disaster Risk Management focussing on preventing or reducing the risk of disasters, mitigating their severity, improving preparedness, rapid and effective response to disasters and post-disaster recovery. The policy created the National Disaster Management Trust Fund and the District Disaster Management Fund which have largely not been effective.
