[ US supreme court has struck down Trump tariffs. Last Friday, the Supreme Court there ruled that Donald Trump’s tariffs from last year via emergency legislation were illegal. The primary aim of Trump’s tariffs is to restore domestic manufacturing. Trump’s tariffs also aim to correct the country’s big trade deficit with the rest of the world. There is a lot of noise in these numbers, however, as businesses last year rushed to get inventory into the US ahead of Trump’s tariff announcements.

Minister for Housing James Browne said he “certainly” expects rents to fall following the introduction of changes to the rental market that come into effect from this weekend. Browne said it was “not realistic to put a day or time” on when exactly rents may fall as the “markets are very dynamic”. Speaking on RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland on Friday, he said: “Rents can of course fall under these rules”. From this Sunday, March 1st, landlords whose properties become vacant will be able to reset rents to market rates. Defending the measures, Browne said increasing supply was “the only way we are going to make rent affordable”.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was unwittingly cultivated by Russian spymasters who exploited his long-standing jealousy and hatred of his brother the King - according to a top secret US intelligence report. 'It states that 'Andrew Mountbatten Windsor (AMW) was cultivated by Russian intelligence in order to have a figure close to the British Royal Family.' The report states baldly 'AMW has a long-standing hatred of his brother Charles, who he sees as weak. 'Russian intelligence used AMW's sexual proclivities to establish a relationship rapport in order to exploit this mental condition for further gain.' But the most damaging information on the former Prince Andrew could well come from the murky depths of the former Soviet states such as Kazakhstan where he frequently travelled.

Burger King is testing AI–powered headsets that track if staff are saying 'please' and 'thank you' to customers. Restaurant Brands International – the Miami–based company that owns Burger King – said it is currently testing the OpenAI–powered headsets in 500 US restaurants. While Burger King hopes the headsets will help its restaurants to run more efficiently, they've been widely slated across social media. Burger King said the intent is to use Patty as a coaching tool, not a tracker of individual employees. 'We believe hospitality is fundamentally human,' Burger King said.

James Comer, chairman of the House oversight committee, speaks to reporters alongside Republican members of the committee before a deposition from Hillary Clinton. So the Hillary Clinton who turned up at the reconvened arts centre in Chappaqua was keen to turn the focus back on the role of key Republican figures in the Epstein story. “You have made little effort to call the people who show up most prominently in the Epstein files,” Clinton told the Republican oversight committee chair, James Comer. Republicans are pointing out that the same Democratic lawmakers who are now crying foul chose to sit and do nothing with the Epstein files during the four years of the Biden administration. The long day of what Hillary Clinton described as a “repetitive” schedule of questions from the Republicans must have caused her to revisit the surreal final months of her 2016 campaign.

For the first time in a long time, the Cheltenham Festival’s famed Anglo-Irish rivalry promises to be relevant when National Hunt racing’s biggest week of the year kicks off on March 10th. A home team used to playing second fiddle is throwing its shoulders back and fancying its chances. A lot of history and resentment used to swirl around any Irish success in the backyard of the old colonial power. It isn’t so long since the Prestbury Cup concept – racing’s version of golf’s Ryder Cup – was dismissed on both sides as an irrelevance. Cheltenham needs a resurgent home team.

Secretary general of the Department of Justice Oonagh McPhillips said existing legislation required the International Protection Office to refer an unaccompanied minor to Tusla. Photograph: Sam Boal/CollinsAlmost 30 per cent of those seeking international protection as unaccompanied minors over the last two years were subsequently found by the child and family agency Tusla not to be eligible, the Department of Justice has said. I don’t know when it occurred to me, but I just thought, well, I do have some Irish. Sometimes people don’t know my name if they watch my videos. Now, on social media, if they select Ireland as one of their interests, they’ll come across videos in Irish. We turned our back on the oceanOpens in new window ]When I moved away, I was just starting to appreciate Ireland. When I moved, I started to appreciate things that you don’t think about when you’re a child.

Davy closed its bond desk for two years in March 2021 in the wake of a Central Bank fine. Photograph: Dara Mac Dónaill / The Irish TimesDavy has hired four senior bond market figures for its bond desk, in anticipation of an expected surge in debt sales by semistate and corporate issuers in the coming years as investment in infrastructure and the green transition accelerates. Rod McAuliffe, a senior bond trader with Cantor Fitzgerald Ireland, is set to move to Davy’s bond trading team in April. The fallout prompted Davy to close its entire bond desk and ultimately led to the firm being sold to Bank of Ireland – which previously controlled the business for almost two decades – in 2022. The size of the Davy’s bond desk now matches that of rival Goodbody Stockbrokers, where the latter’s team has grown to nine people, across trading, distribution and advisory, from a two-man desk when that firm was acquired by AIB in 2021.

A spokesman for the University of Galway said it is exploring options for a range of 'new and exciting courses in arts'. A review of arts courses was initiated by the college executive committee in 2024 in response to a “sustained decline” in student numbers. An “already narrowing applicant pool for arts programmes” and demographic changes are also noted as contributory factors, with secondary school enrolments on a downward trajectory. “These pressures are not unique to Galway; students at other major Irish universities are experiencing similar difficulties,” it says. “This is an early stage consultation, in line with best practice in higher education, where we ask our academics to reimagine how arts courses are offered.”
