Teenage girls in Europe have the highest rate of tobacco use in their age group around the world, while one in seven adolescents across the continent use vapes and e-cigarettes, figures show. Four in 10 adult female smokers around the world – about 62m women – live in Europe, while 4m teenagers aged 13 to 15 across the continent use tobacco products. For vapes and e-cigarettes, Europe has the highest prevalence of teenage regular users, at 14.3% of children aged between 13 and 15. “European girls aged 13 to 15 now have the highest tobacco use rates among their age group anywhere in the world. Applying the same strong tobacco control tools to new and emerging products is essential if we want to protect young people and sustain public health gains.”- The Guardian

I arrived to Dr K a bag of nervous energy. All it took was around three-and-a-half minutes and Dr K standing back to admire her handiwork, murmuring “You have great skin”, for me to be a convert. Dr K threw out some unfamiliar terms like “bunny lines” and “chintox”, but when she uttered the immortal words “lip flip” I sat forward in the chair. “Give me the lip flip Dr K.”True to her word, she was light-handed with all of it. The lip flip injections were so minuscule that it barely took effect at all, which I was fine with.

In contrast, 3D imaging technology based on polarization characteristics of light establishes a bridge from “polarization to contours”, demonstrating unique advantages in 3D perception. The authors of this article have proposed and implemented a scene-level passive high-precision polarization 3D imaging method. Experiments demonstrate that this method can achieve scene-level and high-precision 3D reconstruction at video rates, offering a novel and effective solution for scene-level 3D imaging. Sir, – Your editorial on February 24th, analysing the housing crisis, is well founded. The scale of Ireland’s housing shortage means that incremental progress will not be enough; sustained acceleration in delivery, infrastructure and planning reform is essential. Ireland has, rightly, long prioritised home ownership, while long-term rental – a stable and accepted tenure in many European countries – has remained comparatively underdeveloped. Expanding secure social and cost-rental housing at scale can help build a more balanced system, reducing pressure on both the private rental and ownership markets. A decisive year will require not only political resolve but consistent collaboration between Government, local authorities and housing providers, alongside recognition that durable solutions depend on sustained investment across multiple tenures.

Sir, - The introduction of a new, consumer friendly, low tax, higher yield savings scheme is the talk of the town right now. With State energy agencies using these funds to build publicly owned renewable energy and battery storage projects. Private offshore wind and solar schemes will be built with public subsidies to feed Greenlink. It will export green energy to the UK and receive cheap nuclear, renewable and other generated power in return. The very least the Government could do now is explore the possibility of tying their new savings scheme into some of the renewable energy projects coming down the pipe as a result of Greenlink and the burgeoning offshore wind sector.

I have felt for some time that this doctrine of mine ill fitted me to be leader of the republican party”. De Valera preferred “Fianna Fáil”; it had the advantage, he later recalled, of being difficult to translate; exactitude was not in his interests at that stage. To address the concerns of Lemass, as also recounted by de Valera, “we put the name ‘Republican Party’ in brackets”. He also denied, at the inaugural meeting of Fianna Fáil, that “entering a 26-county assembly would be an acceptance of partition ... to recognise the existence of facts, as we must, is not to acquiesce in them”. Trickier for Fianna Fáil in its centenary year might be the ammunition its founding aims provide for its political opponents.

He appeared to have three 1kg gold bars inside a white gift bag, gripped in his hand. ABC Bullion sells 1kg gold bars - 11.5cm long by 5.1cm wide, about the size of an old Nokia mobile phone - for $246,119.20 each. Nines and eights were almost par for the course but only two men did enough to merit the rarely-spotted ten. Stuart McCloskey has been nicknamed ‘The Irish Fridge’ after his rampage in London, but Gibson-Park was the heartbeat of everything that was good. “I guess he's tough, and a lot of nines are tough, but he's tough,” said Ireland defence coach Simon Easterby. He's got an appetite to attack the game [and] you saw some of his defensive efforts on the weekend. That was the year Andy Farrell took over and bumped the Kiwi-born option a handful of rungs up the ladder.

Irish Life Health said the latest increase was a consequence of continuing medical inflation and the risk equalisation levy charge increase announced by the Government. Irish Life Health has announced its second price increase since the beginning of the year with the company saying it will hike costs to its customers by an average of 5.9 per cent from the beginning of April. [ Cantillon: Why has Irish Life Health hiked its prices four times in a year?Opens in new window ]“Increases in the cost of delivering healthcare continue to be a challenge for health insurers and these rising costs are outpacing general inflation, Irish Life Health’s managing director Ann Marie Nestor said. “These changes in conjunction with the increase in claims is further reason why the Risk Equalisation Scheme needs to be fundamentally reviewed by the Health Insurance Authority,” she said. Meanwhile Level Health, the smallest player in the market said its “advanced” Plans B, C &, D would be going up by €48 In April to match the rising cost of the health insurance levy for the majority of private health insurance plans.

Currently, achieving broadband, dynamic, and polychromatic regulation deeply integrated with complex wavefront modulation (such as holography) in a single device remains a significant challenge. The authors of this article propose dynamic polychromatic holography based on the programming of a polymer-stabilized chiral superstructure. Polymer-stabilized cholesteric liquid crystals (CLC), a soft matter chiral superstructure, were used to successfully achieve dynamic polychromatic holographic display with dual multiplexing of wavelength and polarization. This technology is well-suited for applications in high-security dynamic optical anti-counterfeiting, switchable multi-dimensional information display, and high-density optical information encryption/storage systems. Soft chiral superstructure enabled dynamic polychromatic holography.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to contribute to improving the Ring programming language. That realization led to the creation of Ring, a modern language designed to last for decades. Supernova, an innovative language known for its natural language programming capabilities, played a special role. Its influence helped shape Ring’s unique approach to Natural Language Programming, enabling developers to write code that feels closer to human expression. Mahmoud Samir Fayed’s work spans programming languages, visual programming environments, and research in software engineering.
