The Parc Road Safety Group has called for an end to a loophole for learner drivers and for tougher enforcement on disqualified drivers ordered to surrender their licence. Drivers are currently able to repeatedly renew their learner permits by simply applying for a driving test, but not sitting it. She said the current system lends itself to learners simply renewing their permit and disqualified drivers remaining on the road without getting caught. They have made learners realise ‘ah sure I can keep rolling over my learner permit’. She also spoke about a recent report in The Irish Times revealing just one in 10,000 disqualified drivers surrender their licence after being ordered to do so by the courts.

A man has been arrested at Dublin Airport following an extradition warrant. The warrant was issued by authorities in Northern Ireland. The man, in his 60s, was taken to a Garda station in North Dublin, and will appear before the Extradition High Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice later on Monday.
