Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the world's biggest contract chipmaker, has unveiled a bumper profit rise and upped its growth outlook. The business noted that while demand for artificial intelligence technology remained strong, other parts of the semiconductor market are proving weaker for longer than feared. However, on Thursday TSMC reported a forecast-beating 54 per cent increase in quarterly profit, driven by strong demand for chips used in AI. TSMC said revenue from AI processors was set to account for mid-teens percentage of its overall revenue this year. The chipmaker said it expected fourth quarter revenue of $26.1billion to $26.9billion, up from $19.62billion by the same point a year ago.

The group said it now has “increased confidence” for the rest of 2024 and expects mid single-digit growth in its online net gaming revenues for the year. It came as the company, which also runs Gala Bingo, reported that total net gaming revenues grew by 8% for the three months to September 30. Online net gaming revenues, excluding the US, were up 9% as it was boosted by higher volumes. In the UK, net gaming revenues grew by 2% as online trade offset a decrease from its betting shops. Rank said total like-for-like net gaming revenues grew by 12% to £197.5 million for the three months to September 30.

It follows the launch of a murder inquiry into death of 23-month-old Tavia Michella Ximenes Da Costa in Dungannon, Co Tyrone.
