André Esterhuizen expects the midfield to be a bruising battleground when the Springboks take on Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday. The Boks kick off their end-of-year tour in Edinburgh against a team that boasts one of the game'srugby’s most dynamic and talked-about centre pairings in Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones. “They are a great centre pairing,” said Esterhuizen, who also ranks as a midfield colossus. “We've watched many games of them tearing up defences in the international set-up and for Glasgow. Tuipulotu is a great player in his distribution, he is hard to run at and he is a hard carrier as well.

Adverse reproductive outcomes such as recurrent miscarriage and repeated implantation failure are particularly stressful episodes for couples and challenging situations for physicians to manage. A growing area of interest, with increasing amounts of supporting evidence, is the use of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) for the treatment of complex cases. IVIg is generally safe and well tolerated in pregnancy, even at high doses.19 Reassuring data have shown that IVIg treatment did not increase the rate of obstetric complications or lead to foetal teratogenicity. SummaryThere is a growing body of evidence that IVIg treatment can help patients with immune-mediated RPL or repeated implantation failure. IVIg treatment should be given pre-implantation, as this is more successful than administration post conception.

Donald Trump's re-election could start a trade war that would be an 'economic nightmare' for Britain and Europe, analysts warned last night. Analysts at ING bank yesterday said Trump's re-election was 'Europe's worst economic nightmare come true', warning investors: 'A looming new trade war could push the eurozone economy from sluggish growth into a full-blown recession.' The Kiel Institute for the World Economy said Trump's victory was the 'most difficult economic moment' for the country since the end of the Second World War. It comes after a report by a leading think tank showed that UK economic growth could more than halve next year if Trump implements his pledged tariffs. 'Because the UK is a small, open economy, the UK is one of the most affected by increased trade tariffs,' it said.
Detailed exit polling will eventually show why Republicans with Donald Trump on the top of the ballot were triumphant in the US election. The supply-side price shocks of Covid-19, Russia’s war on Ukraine and the misleadingly titled, green-tinged Inflation Reduction Act played big with the electorate. The outcome would be good for the banks, big tech and mergers and acquisitions, because government intervention would be lighter. Tariffs: On the campaign trail, Trump proposed a 60% additional tariff on Chinese importsCryptocurrencies may be awarded the long-desired regulatory imprimatur that makes for a more respectable asset class. On the campaign trail, Trump proposed a 60 per cent additional tariff on Chinese imports and 10 per cent to 20 per cent on everyone else, including, one supposes, the UK.
House prices increased by 0.2% in October, the fourth monthly increase in a row, Halifax reported. The average house price was £293,999, surpassing a previous peak in June 2022. Amanda Bryden, head of mortgages, Halifax, said: “Average UK house prices nudged up 0.2% in October, continuing the positive momentum of recent months. “That house prices have reached these heights again in the current economic climate may come as a surprise to many, but perhaps more noteworthy is that they didn’t fall very far in the first place. “Despite the headwind of higher interest rates, house prices have mostly levelled off over the past two and a half years, recording a 0.2% increase overall.

Photo: ReutersThis year is set to be the hottest on record and the first full year when global temperatures continuously exceeded “safe” levels. Analysis from the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service says it is now “virtually certain” that 2024 will top all previous hottest periods in the record books. Already at current levels of temperature rise, extreme weather events have been more frequent and fiercer than scientists expected. The latest bulletin comes just days before the start of the Cop29 global climate summit. Dr Burgess said the continued record-breaking conditions “should serve as a catalyst to raise ambition” on tackling climate change and its causes.
But amid the the current bad-blood backdrop, if there’s one team the All Blacks would love to humble above any other, it’s Ireland. Regardless of individual tensions, this is where Ireland’s wrath boils – the desperation for redemption after yet again failing to progress beyond the World Cup quarterfinal stage. Nothing can alter last year’s World Cup result. Despite their World Cup frailties, Ireland under Andy Farrell have consistently set standards between pinnacle tournaments. An underdog triumph in Dublin would, therefore, mark the most notable milestone of the All Blacks patchy Robertson era.
