NEW YORK: “The Tipping Point” author Malcolm Gladwell's next book will focus on a long-running tragedy in the country's culture, gun violence. “The American Way of Killing” will come out Sept. 29, Little, Brown and Company announced Thursday. "'The American Way of Killing' is an argument for looking in unexpected places when trying to understand the American problem of lethal violence,” the publisher's announcement reads in part. Gladwell, 62, is a onetime New Yorker staff writer who hosts the podcast Revisionist History, from which his new book draws material. His bestsellers beside “The Tipping Point” include “Blink,” “Outliers” and “Talking to Strangers.”

Artificial intelligence has emerged as a priority risk for the US financial system, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent telling Congress that regulators are stepping up oversight of how AI is used across markets and institutions. He said AI is increasingly used in compliance, fraud detection and risk management, but warned of new vulnerabilities. "AI can be a great tool, but AI can also be a risk through state and non-state actors," Bessent said. ISLAMABAD: At least 31 people were killed and over 169 injured in a suicide attack during Friday prayers at a Shia religious centre in Islamabad on Friday. The powerful explosion, which was heard from a far distance, took place at Khadijatul Kubra mosque-cum-imambargah in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, the police said in a statement. The suicide bomber was reportedly stopped at the gate of the Imambargah, but he blew himself up, they said. Citing a spokesperson for Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, the Express Tribune newspaper reported that an emergency was declared at the hospital. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas condemned the attack.

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday (February 5, 2026) reiterated the National Conference’s (NC) stand on the restoration of special status to J&K in the Assembly and pleaded that the model of Union Territory (UT) with Assembly “should be done away with” from the Constitution. “I came to know about the transfer of my Finance Secretary on social media,” Mr. Abdullah said. The J&K Chief Minister said the Transaction of Business Rules, required for newly formed UT of J&K, were still in the process. HYDERABAD: Apple is set to expand its retail footprint in India, with Hyderabad emerging as a likely location for the company’s next physical store. Job listings on Apple’s careers portal for roles such as Store Leader, Senior Manager and Genius in Hyderabad point to plans for a new brick-and-mortar outlet. Apple typically begins hiring nearly a year ahead of a store launch, indicating that the Hyderabad outlet could open in early 2027. The development comes as the company is also expected to open another store in Mumbai later this year.The expansion follows the launch of Apple’s Noida store in December 2025, reflecting the company’s steady growth across major Indian cities. Apple began operations with an online store in India in 2020 and opened flagship outlets in Mumbai and Delhi in 2023, later expanding to Bengaluru, Pune and Noida.

The suicide bomber was stopped at the gate of the Imambargah but he blew himself up, news agency PTI reported quoting sources. Police sources told PTI that the attacker was a foreign national and had links with Fitna al Khwaraji, a term used for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Dawn reported Islamabad Capital Territory Police spokesperson Taqi Jawad as saying that that the signs pointed to a suicide bomber. The attack came less than three months after a suicide bomber killed 12 people in a blast outside a district and sessions court building in Islamabad.

सड़क हादस में मृतक सादिक की फाइल फोटो।करनाल के घरौंडा में हाइवे पर तेज रफ्तार डंफर की टक्कर से ट्रैक्टर सवार युवक की मौत हो गई। डंफर ने पीछे से टक्कर मार दी, जिससे ट्रैक्टर असंतुलित होकर सड़क पर गिर गया। हादसे के बाद मौके पर अफरा-तफरी मच गई। सूचना मिलने पर पुलिस पहुंची और घायल को अस्पताल. घरौंडा फ्लाईओवर पर पीछे से मारी टक्कर मृतक की पहचान गांव सिरसावा निवासी सादिक के रूप में हुई है। वह ट्रैक्टर पर लेबर का काम करता था। परिजनों ने बताया कि वीरवार को सादिक ट्रैक्टर पर सवार होकर करनाल से पानीपत की ओर जा रहा था। जैसे ही ट्रैक्टर घरौंडा में पुलिस स्टेशन के नजदीक फ्लाईओवर पर पहुंचा, तभी पीछे से आ रहे तेज रफ्तार डंफर ने जोरदार टक्कर मार दी। टक्कर लगते ही ट्रैक्टर का संतुलन बिगड़ गया और वह हाइवे पर पलट गया। हादसे में सादिक गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गया।पोस्टमॉर्टम हाउस में मौजूद मृतक के परिजन।अस्पताल में डॉक्टरों ने किया मृत घोषित हादसे के तुरंत बाद आसपास मौजूद लोगों की मदद से सादिक को घरौंडा के सरकारी अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। यहां डॉक्टरों ने जांच के बाद उसे मृत घोषित कर दिया। सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची और शव को कब्जे में लेकर पोस्टमार्टम के लिए करनाल के मोर्च्युरी हाउस भेज दिया। आज पोस्टमार्टम के बाद शव परिजनों को सौंप दिया गया। पुलिस ने मामले की जांच शुरू कर दी है और डंफर चालक की तलाश की जा रही है।सादिक के बारे में जानकारी देते मृतक के परिजन।घर में खुशियों से पहले पसरा मातम परिजनों ने बताया कि सादिक के परिवार में चार भाई और एक बहन है। उसकी शादी करीब 11 महीने पहले हुई थी। उसकी पत्नी इस समय चार महीने की गर्भवती है। परिवार में कुछ ही महीनों बाद खुशियां आने वाली थीं, लेकिन इस हादसे ने सारी खुशियों को मातम में बदल दिया। सादिक की मौत के बाद घर में कोहराम मचा हुआ है और परिजनों का रो-रोकर बुरा हाल है।डंफर चालक के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज थाना प्रभारी दीपक ने बताया कि हादसे में युवक की मौत हुई है। पोस्टमॉर्टम के बाद शव परिजनों को सौंप दिया गया है। डंफर चालक के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज कर जांच शुरू कर दी है।

भास्कर न्यूज, पुणे। वानवडी इलाके में गुरुवार सुबह गंगा सैटेलाइट सोसाइटी के पास तेज रफ्तार कार अनियंत्रित होकर भैरोबा नाले में जा गिरी। संयोगवश मौके पर मौजूद एक सैन्य अधिकारी की सतर्कता और साहस से कार चालक की जान बच गई।नाले पर बने पुल के पास पहुंचते ही कार चालक का वाहन पर से नियंत्रण छूट गया। पुल के उस हिस्से में सुरक्षा रेलिंग न होने के कारण कार सीधे नीचे नाले में गिर गई। हादसे के बाद इलाके में अफरा-तफरी मच गई।कार नाले में गिरने के बाद उसमें फंस गई थी और चालक बाहर निकल पाने में असमर्थ था। इसी दौरान वहां से गुजर रहे एक सैन्य अधिकारी ने बिना समय गंवाए कार की खिड़की का शीशा तोड़ा और चालक को सुरक्षित बाहर निकाला। हादसे में चालक को मामूली चोटें आई हैं। प्राथमिक उपचार के बाद उन्हें पास के एक निजी अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है, जहां उनकी हालत स्थिर बताई जा रही है। घटना की सूचना मिलते ही गश्ती पुलिस और ट्रैफिक पुलिस मौके पर पहुंची।पुलिस जांच में सामने आया है कि दुर्घटनाग्रस्त कार प्रवीण जैन के नाम पर पंजीकृत है। वानवडी बाजार पुलिस चौकी के उप-निरीक्षक बाबासाहेब वाकडे ने बताया कि इस घटना को लेकर फिलहाल कोई शिकायत दर्ज नहीं कराई गई है और न ही कोई मामला दर्ज हुआ है। चालक पूरी तरह सुरक्षित है।

A deputy chief of Russian military intelligence was shot and wounded on Friday, officials said. Lt. Gen.
