Goa Police have launched a statewide crackdown against domestic tourists harassing foreign nationals on beaches, warning that anyone found clicking photographs without consent or forcing selfies will be detained on the spot, a senior official said on Friday. The move follows a series of complaints and incidents involving domestic tourists photographing foreign women without permission and pressuring them to pose for selfies, raising concerns over safety and consent at some of the state’s most popular tourist spots. According to the police, the accused — Akash Minaz (19) and Dhayan Tappo (34) — forcibly clicked photographs with the foreign tourist on Calangute beach and touched her inappropriately. Goa, one of India’s most popular international tourist destinations, attracts large numbers of foreign visitors every year. Authorities have said maintaining a safe environment for tourists is critical, especially during the peak season, when beaches see heavy footfall.

PHAGWARA: A minor boy died after allegedly stumbling into an uncovered 'haudi' (waste tank) in a private residential plot on the Khothran road here on Friday, officials said. The child's family members and neighbours claimed that the children were playing, and one of them fell into the uncovered indigenous sewerage tank at the plot. They also alleged that the tank was deep with a wide opening and did not have a lid. The 10-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, officials added. The family has demanded action for this grave negligence.

MUMBAI: Reserve Bank governor Sanjay Malhotra has said the central bank will pay 70% of the small value money or up to Rs 25,000 lost in fraudulent transactions without any questions being asked to the customer for the first time instances. “A discussion paper will soon be released to ensure stronger digital payment security measures,” Malhotra said. According to the official RBI data, banks reported 13,469 fraud cases related to card and internet-based transactions during fiscal 2025, involving losses of Rs 520 crore, which was massively lower than the 29,080 cases and losses of Rs 1,457 crore in the previous financial year. “Introducing a framework to compensate customers up to an amount of Rs 25,000 for losses incurred in fraudulent transactions,” the governor said, adding this will be done upon asking no questions including whether the affected customer has shared the OTP or not. The governor further said a vast majority to the tune 65% of the digital frauds are worth less than Rs 55,000.
