She was buried at the same spot with her husband the late Mumuni Bawumia, at their house in Walewale. The late Hajia Mariama Bawumia was born on September 15,1939 and died at the age of 82 years. Vice President , Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, arrived at the family house in Walewale accompanied by elders of the family. The National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, National Secretary, John Boadu, National Organizer, Sammy Awuku and other bigwigs of the NPP were at the burial grounds in Walewale.

Akonnor was relieved of his duties together with his two assistant coaches on Monday 13th September after a dismal run of form in the two opening games of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The former Ghana captain signed a two-year contract with the Ghana Football Association in January 2020 with a monthly salary of $25,000. With barely four months to the end of his contract, the former Kotoko, AshGold trainer is due some compensation which will amount to $100,000. The Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif confirmed in August that the former Asante Kotoko trainer’s salary was in arrears of seven months making it $175,000 with the four months left on his deal making it $275,000.

According to him, Send Ghana has been unhappy with the government’s laid-back approach towards the release of funds for the programme. He recalled how in 2019, they had lumped pressure on the government until beneficiaries under the 60th and 61st cycle of LEAP were paid. “You may recall that in November 2019, SEND Ghana addressed the media where he commended government for heeding our call to pay the 61st cycle LEAP grant after they were delayed. Indeed, in that, we realized some 30,000 households with over 125,000 beneficiaries were denied payment during the 60th cycle of the grant. “And what happened was that government paid heed to our call and beneficiaries received double amount, that is for the 60th and then the 61st cycle payment,” he said.

But a president who doesn’t pay tax is the least competent messenger for that message,” he said. His comment follows a challenge by President Akufo-Addo to lawyers to fulfill their tax obligations. President Akufo-Addo said this in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, when he addressed the 2021 Bar Conference of the Ghana Bar Association.
