Speaking on Joy FM’s News Night programme, Kareweh pointed to how the government’s own records showed that previous claims of sufficient food have proven untrue. “The successes of the planting for food and jobs programme have been overly exaggerated. Advancing GAWU’s position on the cause of the shortages, Kareweh stressed the need to address structural challenges in the sector. “So the whole explanation that we have over exported and therefore leading to food shortages in the country is not supported by the challenges on the ground,” he added.

General News of Friday, 17 September 2021Source: 3news.comThe West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it is yet to settle on dates to re-write the two papers cancelled in the ongoing West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE). WAEC says this is as a result of the fact that the examinations are conducted on the regional continent and not Ghana alone. WAEC on Wednesday, September 15 announced the rescheduling of the two papers – Physics Part 2 and 1 and Business Management due to leakages in the system. Other African countries are also involved so it will involve other member countries to take a decision”. Madam Ampiaw assured that “we shall report back to the public if any decision is taken”.

General News of Friday, 17 September 2021Source: GNAThe National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has identified the youth as vulnerable and usually targeted for violent and terrorist activities aimed at destabilizing the country and causing destruction to human lives and property. The Regional Director was speaking to youth leaders in the area during youth engagement forum organized by the Bolgatanga East District Directorate of the NCCE. The Regional Director stated that the violent extremists and terrorist groups usually exploit the unemployment situation of the youth and therefore encouraged the youth to safeguard themselves against such deceits and work towards ensuring peaceful coexistence for sustainable development. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Charles Simpa, the Bolgatanga East District Police Commander, noted terrorist activities in neighbouring countries were being carried out by the youth and noted that the situation was a bane on democratic governance. Ms Sadia Sampanah, the Bolgatanga East District Director of tbe NCCE, indicated that Commission was committed to create community awareness especially among the youth on the early signals of violent extremists and how to build peace for sustainable development.

The board, chaired by the sector Minister, Mrs Mavis Hawa Koomson has Mr Moses Anim, Deputy MoFAD; Mr Kwesi Armo-Himbson, Chief Director, MoFAD and Mr Eric Agyeman-Prempeh, Director General, National Disaster Management Organisation (NaDMO) as members. Inaugurating the Advisory Board in Accra on Thursday, Mrs Koomson said the Ministry was implementing a number of policies and projects to transform the fisheries and aquaculture sector to improve its contribution to national development. Among the policies include; the co-management Policy for the fisheries sector; annual closed seasons; Aquaculture for Food and Jobs; establishment of the Anomabo Fisheries College and the National Aquaculture and Commercial Farm Projects. She, however, admitted that the fisheries and aquaculture sector was facing several challenges including illegal fishing.

The junta by members of the Special Forces of Guinea led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya seized power and detained President Conde. Addressing journalists in Accra after the emergency summit, President of the ECOWAS Commission Jean-Claude Brou said the bloc is committed to support Guinea return to civilian rule. Earlier, at the start of the Summit, President Akufo-Addo charged members of the Authority to take informed decisions on matters to do with stability within the sub-region. “I am confident that as in the past, we will rise to the occasion,” he reiterated at Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, where the Summit was held.

Crime & Punishment of Friday, 17 September 2021Source: 3news.comA man believed to be in his early 30s has been beaten to death by persons suspected to be commercial sex workers at Sunyani-Newtown in the Bono Region. The man, who is yet to be identified, is alleged to have refused to pay the sex workers after patronising their services. According to local radio station Nimdee FM, after refusing to pay one sex worker, the others were called in to ‘punish’ him. The Sunyani District Police was alerted and they have since arrested one of the sex workers and the landlord, who is said to be physically challenged, to aid investigations. The body of the deceased has since been sent to the Sunyani Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Delivering the keynote address at a graduation ceremony for the Women in Technology (WIT) Business Incubator programme organised by Standard Chartered Ghana, Mrs Addo Awadzi said it is essential to prioritize requisite access to business support services for women entrepreneurs particularly in the technology business space. “The participation of female entrepreneurs in Ghana’s fast-growing technology sector remains marginal although there is great potential for women to play a key role in this space,” she pointed. “This programme has no doubt been a major confidence booster for the young female entrepreneurs behind these 14 businesses that graduate today.

The heavy downpour in the area on Wednesday, September 15, caused the river to overflow its banks, flooding various places in the community including the main road on Thursday, September 16. But the okada rider whose name was given as Tetteh decided to go through the flood to the other side to buy fuel after bringing a passenger to the area. "He ignored the advice of people and went into the flood with the motorbike and the water swept him away in the middle,” he added. Elders of the community were informed about the incident and a libation was poured to make way for divers to go into the water to search for him.
