The first session of the Ethiopian Women Empowerment project’s new public advocacy course was held on Sunday in Tel Aviv. The purpose of the course is to equip Ethiopian Israeli women with the knowledge and tools to be ambassadors for themselves and their community in the public sphere, both online and off. Ethiopian Women Empowerment is backed by the philanthropic arm of the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM). The curriculum of the eight-session course includes lessons on public speaking, the English language, social media, content creation, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, among other topics. Earlier this year, four volunteer entities supported by CAM — including Ethiopian Women Empowerment — were recognized by Israeli President Isaac Herzog for their efforts helping people and communities impacted by the attack.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to facilitate the immediate release of 270 Nigerians currently imprisoned or detained in Kaliti Prison, Ethiopia. The order of mandamus was granted by the court following a motion on notice filed by Sunday Mmaduagwu, Henry Anyanwu and Leonard Okafor. Mr Mmaduagwu averred that since he arrived in the prison to see his cousin, he met over 270 Nigerians arrested and detained. Mr Ekwo said he observed that the application was brought on behalf of Nigerian citizens detained and imprisoned abroad. The judge, who ordered the ministry and NIDCOM to receive and return the imprisoned Nigerians home, refused to grant their 1st relief seeking a declaration that the detained Nigerians’ rights had been breached by the respondents.
