CAIRO - 29 May 2020: Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi asserted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attaches importance to the solid waste management file and follows up efforts to implement a relevant new system to restore the cultural and aesthetic aspect of Greater Cairo governorates and other governorates nationwide. Shaarawi asserted the key role of his ministry in implementing those projects in coordination with governorates. The minister made the remarks Saturday during a video conference meeting with Dalia Lateef, a senior specialist at the World Bank (WB), to review the latest developments as regards fields of cooperation between the two sides to implement major plans of the solid waste management system. Shaarawi hailed ongoing cooperation with the WB, asserting that the ministry considers the bank as a key partner that helped the Egyptian government achieve many successes in many cooperation fields. Meanwhile, Lateef asserted the importance of speeding up efforts to outline the system of operation and implementation of the project in the coming period after it has already come into effect.

Luciano Spalletti has been named the new coach of Napoli, succeeding Gennaro Gattuso, the Serie A club confirmed on Saturday. Gattuso's widely-expected departure was confirmed this week after Napoli failed to qualify for next season's Champions League following a final day draw at home to Hellas Verona. "I am delighted to announce that Luciano Spalletti will become Napoli coach on 1 July," Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said in a short statement. Gattuso, who has since taken over at fellow Serie A side Fiorentina, succeeded Carlo Ancelotti as Napoli coach in December 2019 and led them to Coppa Italia glory in 2020. Although his departure was far from surprising following a reported breakdown in his relationship with De Laurentiis, Gattuso has not discussed the matter recently as the club have imposed a media blackout since February.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 46 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 14,950. Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population revealed that it prepared the first isolation room for patients infected with black fungus disease at Al-Negela Hospital, and stated that the hospital has not yet received any cases. The Ministry of Health assured that the Black Fungus disease is rare, and it occurs due to wrong or excessive use of cortisone drugs or antibiotics, and therapeutic protocol set for COVID patients. This fungal infection appears to have different types as reported in India: Black Fungus, Yellow Fungus, and White Fungus, with yellow reported as the most fatal one. The Ministry of Health has not officially reported any cases with Black Fungus; however, a 62-year old lady in Fayoum, who recently recovered from COVID-19, was diagnosed with the fungal infection.

Most of the names and boundary lines have been changed for different countries and cities. It’s the same land as it’s always been, just as it’s all Hwy 87 with different names in between. If you Google what different names were in the Bible for different countries – you then have to know what era it was. When news commentators talk about different cities and countries, I do not know if it is a city or a country. I have a hard enough time keeping up with United States geography, much less the Middle East.

CAIRO - 28 May 2021: Egypt will receive the last tranche of its $5.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before the end of June, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait suggested in remarks to Egypt Today. The value of the tranche is $ 1.6 billion. After the executive board of the IMF approves the new tranche during the coming days, the money will be transferred to the ministry's accounts in the Central Bank of Egypt. The IMF said on Tuesday that it expects to provide additional financing of $1.6 billion to Egypt, after it is approved by its executive board in the coming weeks. "Deepening and broadening structural reforms is critical to solidify the recovery, address post-COVID-19 challenges, strengthen buffers, and ensure higher and more inclusive growth," it added.

CAIRO – 28 May 2021: Two military aid planes took off from Eastern Cairo airbase, Friday, carrying large quantities of medical aid, heading to Djibouti. The military spokesman said the aid was sent as per the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Egypt also sent a shipment of medical supplies and food to Djibouti on Wednesday, the spokesman said. El-Sisi and his Djiboutian counterpart, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, held talks on Thursday as the former visited Djibouti. The talks examined ways of bolstering and developing bilateral ties on the political, economic, security, and military levels.

CAIRO - 29 May 2020: Egyptian authorities on Saturday continued opening the Rafah border crossing for the 14th consecutive day to allow stranded Palestinians and humanitarian cases on both sides to cross the border terminal. Medical and administrative teams are stationed for facilitating the passage of the injured to hospitals for treatment, said official sources at the crossing. Egypt has exceptionally opened the crossing to enable people stranded on the two sides to cross and to deliver aid to Gaza residents, the sources added. In May 7, Israeli forces in the West Bank and Jerusalem engaged in clashes with civilians who were protesting forced displacement, particularly from Sheikh Jarrah eastern Jerusalem, and assaults on worshippers in Al Aqsa Mosque.
