They both discussed the joint economic relations between Egypt and South Korea. Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of joint cooperation with South Korea for development efforts in Egypt, as this is within its 2030 Vision. Ambassador Jin-wook said that South Korea sees Egypt as a priority partner country in official development assistance during the period between 2021/2025. In that light, there will be tremendous expansion of development cooperation between the two countries in the coming period. Egypt’s Health Ministry on Monday confirmed 1,149 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 254,984 ministry. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 14,766 nationwide, after the ministry announced 45 deaths. And 768 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 187,446. Doctors and officials have warned the public to abide by coronavirus precautionary measures, stating that social distancing is just as important as wearing a mask. CAIRO - 20 May 2021: Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, H.E. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of international cooperation on May 19 and exchanged opinions on ROK’s recent decision to add Egypt in the list of ODA priority partner countries and the ways to expand and promote systematic development cooperation through ODA country partnership strategy (CPS), which will be drawn up in the coming months. Ambassador Hong informed that the Korean Government designated Egypt as an ODA priority partner country during the year 2021-2025, expressing his expectation for the massive expansion of the development cooperation between the two countries. He explained that Egypt is a country of great potential with young capable manpower and is already a strategic hub for the Korean business entities in Africa, the Middle East and Europe, that is why Korea designated Egypt as the only ODA priority partner country in Middle East and North Africa. Agreeing with the Minister, Ambassador Hong requested her full support for Korea’s preparation of the ODA country partnership strategy (CPS), as a guideline for bilateral development cooperation in line with Egypt’s national development strategy.

The Egyptian Company for the Management and Operation of the Cairo Metro, on Wednesday, received the first of six new vehicles from South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem. The new cars will be added to the metro’s second line (Shubra-El Mounib). The agreement to revamp the metro’s second line includes the supply of spare parts for a period of eight years after the warranty period ends. The new vehicles include a high-capacity air-conditioning system and passageways that allow riders to move in between vehicles for more comfort. For hearing-impaired passengers, maps above the passenger doors from the inside will display the train’s path through light bulbs.

On Wednesday, the Egyptian Cabinet announced that the current anti-coronavirus precautionary measures and general restrictions will now extend until the end of May. The restrictions, which were set to expire on Saturday, includes a mandatory, 9 pm closing time for shops, malls, restaurants, cafes, and movie theaters. The decision to extend the restrictions was made by the government’s Higher Committee for the Management of the Coronavirus Crisis, and was announced by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during the weekly Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet stated that the extension excludes the closing of parks and public beaches, which will reopen to the public after Saturday and remain open as long as precautionary measures are enforced and followed. The number of daily coronavirus infections in Egypt has hovered above 1,100 for some time now, while the daily death count still hold above 50.

CAIRO – 20 May 2021: The Health Ministry said Tuesday night that 1,160 new coronavirus infections were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 249,238. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 57 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 14,498. According the President’s Health adviser, China announced that those who received two doses of the Coronavirus vaccine must receive a third dose of the vaccine. The two-day campaign will tour Cairo, Alexandria, Fayyoum, Giza, Port Said, Damietta and Kafr el-Sheikh governorates, Health Ministry's Spokesman Khaled Megahed said. They will also brief the citizens on the importance of getting vaccinated and how to register on the vaccination website.

In an interview with the “From Egypt” program aired on CBC channel, Lang said: “I had that opportunity when I was a student and the credit goes to one of my friends. I was young to attend a concert for Umm Kulthum in Cairo, and it was very difficult to get a ticket to the concert. Umm Kulthum has a special place in my life and I very much enjoyed the musical atmosphere. I will never forget this wonderful concert.”

The establishment of the university aims to raise standards of education and scientific research in Egypt. The university will provide the latest technology and work to strengthen ties with cultural and scientific institutions alongside other universities. The university may also establish colleges and specialized higher institutes and other research units after taking the necessary legal measures. Earlier this May, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced that Egypt will establish six new technological universities across the country. While inspecting the Technological University in Alexandria, Abdel Ghaffar explained that these technological universities will contribute greatly to supplying the internal and external labor market with well-trained qualified graduates.

An Egypt-born clinical research expert based in Washington DC appeared on “Good Morning Egypt” to discuss permitting the coronavirus vaccine for use on children. Ashraf el-Fiky said that the current age restrictions for the vaccine are in place because the early clinical trials were carried out on adult volunteers, as requested by the supervisory bodies for the safety of drugs. Fiky he said that the trials were carried out specifically on those who were at least 18 years of age. He explained that the 12-18 age groups will receive the same regimen of the vaccine that adults get, that is, two separate jabs. Fiky explained: “There are clinical trials currently being conducted on children from one year to 11 years old, and results are expected by the end of the summer.”Children younger than 12 will likely receive a weaker dose of the vaccine, he added.
