Egypt’s Health Ministry on Monday confirmed 1,149 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 254,984 ministry. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 14,766 nationwide, after the ministry announced 45 deaths. And 768 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 187,446. Doctors and officials have warned the public to abide by coronavirus precautionary measures, stating that social distancing is just as important as wearing a mask. The Egyptian Company for the Management and Operation of the Cairo Metro, on Wednesday, received the first of six new vehicles from South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem. The new cars will be added to the metro’s second line (Shubra-El Mounib). The agreement to revamp the metro’s second line includes the supply of spare parts for a period of eight years after the warranty period ends. The new vehicles include a high-capacity air-conditioning system and passageways that allow riders to move in between vehicles for more comfort. For hearing-impaired passengers, maps above the passenger doors from the inside will display the train’s path through light bulbs.

On Wednesday, the Egyptian Cabinet announced that the current anti-coronavirus precautionary measures and general restrictions will now extend until the end of May. The restrictions, which were set to expire on Saturday, includes a mandatory, 9 pm closing time for shops, malls, restaurants, cafes, and movie theaters. The decision to extend the restrictions was made by the government’s Higher Committee for the Management of the Coronavirus Crisis, and was announced by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during the weekly Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet stated that the extension excludes the closing of parks and public beaches, which will reopen to the public after Saturday and remain open as long as precautionary measures are enforced and followed. The number of daily coronavirus infections in Egypt has hovered above 1,100 for some time now, while the daily death count still hold above 50.

Egypt’s Health Ministry on Tuesday confirmed 1,160 new coronavirus cases, down from 1,169 the day before. The minstry also reported 57 deaths and 1,003 recovered cases. The country has now reported a total of 248,078 cases, 14,498 deaths, and 183,696 recoveries. The ministry reported in mid-May that it has vaccinated 1.3 million people so far. CAIRO – 20 May 2021: The Health Ministry said Tuesday night that 1,160 new coronavirus infections were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 249,238. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 57 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 14,498. According the President’s Health adviser, China announced that those who received two doses of the Coronavirus vaccine must receive a third dose of the vaccine. The two-day campaign will tour Cairo, Alexandria, Fayyoum, Giza, Port Said, Damietta and Kafr el-Sheikh governorates, Health Ministry's Spokesman Khaled Megahed said. An Egypt-born clinical research expert based in Washington DC appeared on “Good Morning Egypt” to discuss permitting the coronavirus vaccine for use on children. Ashraf el-Fiky said that the current age restrictions for the vaccine are in place because the early clinical trials were carried out on adult volunteers, as requested by the supervisory bodies for the safety of drugs. Fiky he said that the trials were carried out specifically on those who were at least 18 years of age. He explained that the 12-18 age groups will receive the same regimen of the vaccine that adults get, that is, two separate jabs. Fiky explained: “There are clinical trials currently being conducted on children from one year to 11 years old, and results are expected by the end of the summer.”Children younger than 12 will likely receive a weaker dose of the vaccine, he added.
