CAIRO – 4 July 2021: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, is set to issue LE 21 billion in treasury bills (T-bills) on Sunday, July 4. The T-bills were offered in two installments, with the first valued at LE 6 billion with a 182-day term, and the second worth LE 15 billion with a 364-day term. For the current fiscal year, the budget deficit is estimated to record 6.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), planned by the ministry to be financed through treasury bills and bonds and through international and Arab loans. The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided Thursday, June 17, to keep the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the rate of the main operation unchanged at 8.25 percent, 9.25 percent, and 8.75 percent, respectively. The discount rate was also kept unchanged at 8.75 percent.

(Reuters) - Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Portugal international forward Francisco Trincao on a season-long loan from Spanish La Liga side Barcelona with the option to make the deal permanent in future, the Premier League club said on Sunday. The 21-year-old featured 42 times and scored three goals in all competitions for Barcelona in the 2020-21 campaign, helping Ronald Koeman's side win the Copa del Rey. Trincao joined Barcelona in 2020 after a successful campaign at Portuguese club Braga, where he scored nine goals and set up a further 13 in all competitions, which earned him a switch to the Camp Nou. He is new Wolves manager Bruno Lage's second signing of the close season following the arrival of Colombian defender Yerson Mosquera last month. The West Midlands club, who finished 13th under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo last season, begin their Premier League campaign at Leicester City on Aug. 14.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday said that after 10 years of negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Ethiopia continues to show no political will to reach an agreement. During a phone call with “Masaa DMC” TV program, Shoukry criticized Ethiopia’s unilateral filling of the GERD which violates the agreement of principles. He noted that the the Security Council will hold a session in June 8 on the GERD. “We look forward to the Security Council showing a specific position that enhances the chances of reaching a binding legal agreement,” he stated. Egypt presented an official document of what was undertaken over the past years on GERD issue to the security council, he said, and touched on the flexibility of Egypt to reach an agreement.

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) confirmed the validity of any and all banknote denominations without exception, in response to social media rumors that one pound banknote were no longer accepted. In a statement, CBE stressed that dealing will continue with all categories of paper currencies, and urged all media and social media users to investigate the accuracy of the news they circulate and verify its reliable sources.

Meteorologists predict very hot and humid weather on Sunday during the daytime over Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, South Sinai, and Upper Egypt, and moderately hot weather along the northern coasts. The weather will be moderate and humid by nightfall over most parts of the country. The increase in humidity will exacerbates the feeling of hot weather by two to four degrees. Active winds are expected on northwestern coasts, South Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt. Waves in the Mediterranean Sea will be moderate to rough, ranging between two and 2.5 meters in height with northwestern surface winds.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday inaugurated the third of July Military Base in the Gargoub area on the northwestern coast. It is the latest of series of huge military bases Egypt has opened, namely the Mohamed Naguib Base in al-Alamein, and the Berenice Military Base on the southern borders, in addition to other military bases that have not yet been announced. Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said that the Third of July Military Base is the latest Egyptian military base on the Mediterranean Sea, and is specialized in securing the country within the northern and western strategic direction. The Commander of the Egyptian Naval Forces Vice Admiral Ahmed Khaled on Saturday said this new base send forward a message of peace and development to the region. He highlighted the strategic position of the naval base, which occupies an area of 10 million square meters.

The Egyptian Environment Ministry on Friday fined Tanzanian oil service boat “MEHR” US$108,000 after it ran aground inside Gabal Elba national park south of the Red Sea, three nautical miles from the shore. A statement from the Ministry said that the boat destroyed an area of coral reefs, causing damage to the marine environment in the area of the accident. Immediately, the Environment Ministry decided to form a technical committee of environmental researchers in the Red Sea Governorate to examine the accident. Investigations found that boat is roughly 41 meters and caused damage to coral reefs at an area of 40 meters and width of three meters. It is also scheduled to conduct another inspection to estimate the size of the losses after the boat was refloated and towed away from the coral reefs area.

Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Mohamed Abdel-Ati, said that his country will not accept unilateral action to fill and operate the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), as the UN Security Council convenes within days to discuss the crisis. Abdel-Ati added that negotiations with Ethiopia over GERD have stagnated as a result of Ethiopia’s intransigence. France’s ambassador to the UN, Nicolas de Riviere said that the UN Security Council will likely meet this week to discuss the dispute between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia over the GERD that Ethiopia is building on the Blue Nile. The Arab League has called the Security Council last month to meet to discuss the issue of the dam, and Ethiopia’s plans for the second phase of filling its reservoir this summer, without an agreement with Egypt and Sudan. Ethiopia rejected the position of Egypt and Sudan in referring the issue to the Security Council, and called on the council to encourage the two countries to engage in negotiations led by the African Union, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Egyptian Health and Population Ministry announced Friday that a contract is now underway with a new company to locally manufacture COVID-19 vaccines in Egypt. According to the ministry’s statement, the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (​VACSERA) will be a strong arm for Egypt to achieve self-sufficiency in vaccine production. The Egyptian Health and Population Ministry said on Wednesday that starting from August, 15 million doses of the Sinovac-VACSERA vaccine will be produced locally per month. The ministry noted that it aims to manufacture 40 million doses of the vaccine by the end of this year. Egypt’s Health Ministry on Friday confirmed 198 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total confirmed cases up to 281,722.

CAIRO - 3 July 2020: The Health Ministry said Friday night that 198 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 281,772. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 21 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,215. Naeema Al-Gasseer, the representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt congratulated Egypt for locally producing the first batch of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine. Zayed said Sinovac has approved the possibility that Egypt produces 80 million doses of its coronavirus vaccine per six months. Starting August, 10-15 million Egypt-made vaccine doses will be available per month to vaccinate 40 million citizens by the end of the year, Zayed said.

Egyptian police have arrested a male nurse in a private hospital in Giza Governorate for sexually abusing a woman admitted to the hospital. Talbiyah Police Department received a complaint from a woman who said that she went to a private hospital to receive treatment for her shortness of breath, only to have been met with a male nurse who began touching her private areas. The patient’s family accused the nurse working in the hospital of sexually harassing the woman while she was in intensive care. On June 4, 2014, a new law was passed which criminalizes sexual harassment for the first time in modern Egyptian history. The Egyptian House of Representatives is currently discussing more tough penalties against crimes of molesting others and sexual harassment.

He said the muscle atrophy treatment costs up to $3 million per child and Egypt is determined to secure it although many other countries cannot afford it. Attending the event, Zayed said 204 muscle atrophy cases have been detected in Egypt, of which more than 32 can be treated. Egypt will start treating the muscle atrophy cases starting next week, Zayed noted. The ministry said that the drug used to treat cases of muscular atrophy is of high cost, and will be provided for treatment in Egypt. The complaints system of the government has recorded complaints of muscular atrophy patients, which prompted the authority to work as hard as possible in order to meet their demand.
