The wife of the late President Mohamed Anwar al-Sadat, Jehan al-Sadat passed away after a short struggle with illness. The Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt mourned with great sorrow the death of Sadat in a statement, saying: “The wife of the late Sadat, the hero of war and peace, who provided a model for the Egyptian woman in supporting her husband under the most difficult and precise circumstances, until he led the country to achieve historic victory in the glorious October War, which represented a milestone in the modern history of Egypt.”On Thursday, Mohamed Anwar al-Sadat, a member of the family, commented on the health condition of Jehan, saying that she had contracted a disease more than a year and a half or two years ago, and she was treated abroad for a while and returned to Egypt where she continued to receive treatment. But over the past two weeks, she has not been well, and her condition went critical. Sadat assured she did not die of coronavirus.

CAIRO – 9 July 2021: The Health Ministry said 155 new coronavirus cases were detected on Thursday, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 282,737. In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 19 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,351. As many as 765 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 216,982 so far, the spokesman said. Egypt, besides receiving millions of coronavirus vaccine doses from abroad, has locally produced a million Chinese Sinovac doses as part of its vaccination campaign. Egypt’s local production of coronavirus vaccine aims to achieve self-sufficiency for the vaccination needs in the country and to turn Egypt into a hub for exporting vaccine doses to Africa.

International company MSC has announced the launch of cruise trips in the Red Sea, operating the first global giant ship to depart from Saudi Arabia to local and regional destinations. The trips will start from July 30 and will last for three months. The cruise trips will start from the city of Jeddah, reaching Aqaba in Jordan, or Safaga in Egypt, extending from three to four nights. The ship’s capacity will be about 1,900 cabins, and each trip will carry more than 3,000 passengers, limited to those vaccinated against coronavirus or those with a negative PCR test.

CAIRO – 9 July 2021: The Egyptian Presideny on Friday mourned the death of Gihane El-Sadat, 88, the widow of former President Anwar El-Sadat. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi ordered awarding her the Order of the Virtues. Gihane El-Sadat, who suffered from cancer, died after struggle with illness and after she spent around a month in the intensive care unit. “The Egyptian Presidency mourns with deep sadness and sorrow Mrs. Gihane El-Sadat, the wife of the late President Anwar El-Sadat, the war and peace hero,” the presidential statement read. Gihane El-Sadat had introduced “a model for the Egyptian woman supporting her husband under the most difficult and critical circumstances until he led the country to achieve the historic victory in the glorious October War,” the statement read.

Egypt’s Health Ministry on Thursday confirmed 155 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total up to 282,737. And 765 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 216,982. Madbouly announced at the beginning of June that 2.5 million citizens have received a vaccine against COVID-19, out of the six million total registered for vaccination. The Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Supply, Medical Supply and Medical Technology Administration (UPA) announced in mid-June that it has secured over 46 million COVID-19 doses during the fiscal year 2020/2021. Egypt’s Prime Minister said that Egypt has also produced one million doses of coronavirus vaccines thus far.

CAIRO – 8 July 2021: Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam al-Sadiq al Mahdi called on the UN security council to urge resuming the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam [GERD] negotiations in order to reach a binding and legal agreement on the dam’s filling and operation. She explained in her speech at the UN Security council session on the GERD that this agreement would protecting Sudanese citizens, protect Sudanese dams and protect Sudan’s strategic security. “They sent us a notifying and ‘nearly threatening’ message three days ago on the secound filling of the dam, knowing that the UNSC session will be held Today,” the Sudanese Foreign Minister said. She added that she is very much optimistic regarding the UNSC and that it will address GERD issue with responsibility. CAIRO – 8 July 2021: The Arab Council for Human Rights urged the United Nations Security Council on Thursday to behave decisively on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue as the council is set to meet tonight. In a statement, the council said the second phase of filling the dam by the Ethiopian side is carried out unilaterally and represents a harm to the water rights of Egypt and Sudan in a way that threatens international security and peace. Chief of the council, Abdel Gawad Ahmed, affirmed that the UNSC is in charge of considering the GERD dispute in accordance with the Charter of the UN due to its connection to the international security and peace. It also harms the two countries’ water rights established through international agreements that may not be infringed, according to the Middle East News Agency. CAIRO - 8 July 2021: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker said Egypt is rich in renewable energy resources especially when it comes to wind and solar energy, which it can use to generate about 90 gigawatts of electrical power. Shaker made the remarks during his meeting with Country Manager of French renewable energy company Voltalia Karim Elazzawy to discuss means of fostering cooperation between Egypt’s electricity sector and the company, in addition to ways to boost its investments in Egypt, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said in a statement Thursday. The minister hailed as “distinguished and fruitful” cooperation between the electricity sector and Voltalia, which he said has been underlined by the French company’s participation in the Benban Solar Park.
