CAIRO – 11 July 2021: Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy al-Gebali highlighted in the plenary session Sunday that the Nile River is the source of life in Egypt, and that concluding a fair agreement spares the region conflict. The dispute among Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia dates back to May 2011 when Ethiopia started building the dam; Egypt voiced concern over its water share [55.5 billion cubic meters]. Three years later, a series of tripartite talks between the two countries along with Sudan began to reach an agreement, while Ethiopia continued the dam construction. The dam is located on the Blue Nile with a capacity of 74 billion cubic meters, and is expected to generate up to 6,000 megawatts of power. The first filling was carried out in 2020 with 4.9 billion cubic meters, and there was an intention to do the second filling with 13.5 billion cubic meters but that is not possible for technical reasons.

CAIRO – 11 July 2021: Egyptian House of Representatives discussed this week a report released by the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee regarding a draft law submitted by 61 MPs to toughen harassment punishment in law. Member of Parliament Ashraf Rashad and 60 others (more than one-tenth of the parliament’s members) to amend some provisions of the Penal Code regarding the punishment of sexual harassment. It does not exceed five years and the fine is not less than twenty thousand pounds and not more than fifty thousand pounds. On Saturday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry headed to the Belgian capital, Brussels, to hold talks with his European counterparts on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). He said that Egypt and Sudanshould strengthen their efforts to resume negotiations under the African Union, encouraging participation and observation from the United Nations, the European Union, the United States, and perhaps other partners. The UN Security Council held a meeting over GERD issue on Thursday after a call from the Arab League. Ethiopia informed Egypt on July 5 that it has begun the process of filling the second filling of the GERD reservoir. Egypt and Sudan say they want a legally binding agreement on filling and operating the GERD, while Ethiopia is trying to evade such an agreement.

CAIRO - 11 July 2021: The fourth edition of the fourth edition of the ‘Nostos -The Return’ - "Reviving Roots" presidential initiative was launched with the participation of youths from Egypt, Cyprus and Greece, according to the Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi launched "Reviving Roots" initiative during the tripartite summit that grouped Egypt, Cyprus and Greece in Nicosia in 2017. Activities of the first edition of the initiative were held in April 2018, while the second edition in November 2018 and the third edition in 2019. Nostos – the Return, meaning “roots revival,” is an initiative launched by Makram in October upon directives from President Sisi. The initiative also aims at promoting Egyptian tourism through the launch of these events.

The high-speed electric train consists of high-speed trains for passengers and cargo as well as an LRT. With regard to the LRT, it extends over 90 kilometers between Salam City and the 10th of Ramadan City passing through the New Administrative Capital and consists of 16 stations. The first phase stretches between Adly Mansour Metro Station in Al Salam City and Administrative Capital Station I including 11 stations. The second phase lies within the New Administrative Capital and ends in Administrative Capital Station II.

CAIRO – 11 July 2021: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry headed Sunday to Brussels to deliver a message from President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to the president of the European Union Council. The minister will also hold meetings with the foreign ministers of EU countries and senior officials at the European Commission to confer over bilateral relations and regional affairs of mutual interest. On July 8, Minister Shokry delivered a speech explaining Egypt's vision and stance on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session held on the issue. The minister had been to New York housing the UNSC's headquarters since July 4, and met with the UN ambassadors of both permanent and non-permanent member states as well as other countries.

The Egyptian government said on Saturday that economic indicators show that the Egyptian economy has exceeded international expectations, thanks to the success of the economic reform program and resilience during the coronavirus pandemic. A statement from the Cabient’s Media Center stated that the the government’s economic reforms have made the economy more capable of facing external and internal shocks. It has transformed into a diversified, productive economy with competitive advantages. The Egyptian economy has achieve balanced and sustainable growth, with Egypt being among the few countries in the world that was able to achieve positive growth amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to international economic institutions. The report noted that the net foreign direct investment also increased by 11.6 percent, recording US$4.8 billion during the period (July 2020 – March 2021) compared to US$4.3 billion during the period (July 2009 – March 2010).

CAIRO- 10 July 2021: A total number of 1,595 Egyptians stranded in UAE were registered to return to Egypt amid Egyptian coordinate with 38 airliners. According to the Egyptian Minister of State for Immigration Nabila Makram, the Egyptians stranded in the UAE began to gradually return, adding that there is cooperation between the ministries of immigration, tourism and antiquities to help Egyptians return to Cairo. Saudi Arabia has suspended flights to three countries; the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Ethiopia, to protect against a coronavirus variant. The decision was taken due to the spread of the new mutated strain of COVID-19 virus. In TV statements, Minister Makram explained that “there is cooperation with 38 companies to return the stranded Egyptians, where they will not bear the cost of the travel tickets.”She added that there are 1,595 Egyptian returned home, and 403 others booked their flights and traveled individually without the mediation of tourism companies, where some preferred to travel from UAE to Amman and then Jordan, from where they head then to Saudi Arabia.”

Egypt’s Health Ministry on Friday confirmed 127 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 282,864. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 16,368 nationwide, after the ministry announced 17 deaths. And 342 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 217,324. Madbouly announced at the beginning of June that 2.5 million citizens have received a vaccine against COVID-19, out of Egypt’s population of 102 million. Egypt’s Prime Minister added that Egypt has also produced one million doses of coronavirus vaccines thus far.
