CAIRO – 14 July 2021: A southern Cairo court judge ordered the detention of Egyptian businessman Hassan Rateb for another 15 days pending investigation over funding a former MP in illegal excavation operations. The prosecution has accused Rateb of funding former MP Alaa Hassanin of funding the excavation of antiquities as its investigations revealed that Rateb provided millions of Egyptian pounds to Hassanin and his brother to help them in the excavation. The prosecution ordered the detention of Hassanin, former Al-Mihwar owner Hassan Rateb and 17 others pending investigation in the illegal excavation case. Rateb is accused of funding the digging process, which, according to the police investigations, occurred in different areas in the republic. The prosecution said it seized four deep digging sites, noting that the antiquities committee confirmed that the digging work was made to excavate antiquities.

Egyptian veteran diplomat and director of Bibliotheca Alexandria pointed the finger at Israel on Tuesday over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis. He also indicated that the American and Russian positions on GERD would change if Israel is convinced to support Egypt. Negotiations over the dam between Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan have stalled for years, with the three parties ultimately failing to reach any agreements. Ethiopia officially informed Egypt on July 5 that it had started the second filling of GERD reservoir, a move that was unilaterally rejected by Egypt. CAIRO – 14 July 2021: Representing Egypt, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al-Said presented Tuesday the 3rd Voluntary National Report (VNR) at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, held in New York this year, virtually via video conference. El-Said explained that Egypt's 3rd VNR covers all 17 sustainable development goals, and includes challenges and gaps, as well as achievements and success factors. El-Said addressed the challenges that impede the implementation of sustainable development goals, explaining that these challenges included the digital divide, between males and females. El-Said asserted Egypt's focus on localizing the sustainable development goals at the governorates level to address development gaps through evidence-based interventions. It deals with the implementation of the sustainable development goals in each of Egypt's governorates and determines its needs and development gaps as well as setting competitiveness index at the governorates level.

Mahmoud Shaaban, Director of the Early Childhood Department at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, announced that the ministry had succeeded in vaccinating 98 percent of seniors in some care homes, amounting to almost 3,000 seniors. Shaaban pointed out that the conditions are stable inside care homes, and all precautionary measures have been taken, including sterilization, temperature checks, reducing visits, and other measures to protect against the virus. CAIRO - 13 July 2021: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Tuesday’s session in green, adding around LE 9.46 billion of market capitalization, amid Arab and foreign buying. The equally weighted index EGX 50 rose 2.01 percent, or 42.66 points, to end at 2,161.69 points. The small and mid-cap index EGX 70 hiked 2.27 percent, or 52.73 points, to close at 2,374.33 points, and the broader index EGX 100 climbed 1.98 percent, or 64.43 points, to close at 3,321.44 points. Egyptian investors were net sellers at LE 906.68 million, while Arab and foreign investors were net buyers at LE 34.84 million, and 871.83 million, respectively.
