CAIRO – 27 October 2023: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted on Friday an Arab non-binding resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip. A total of 120 countries voted in favor of the decision, while only 14 countries voted against it and 45 other countries abstained during an emergency session for the UNGA. The countries that voted against the resolution include Israel, the United States, Guatemala, Croatia, Czechia, Paraguay, Marshall Islands, Hungary, Tonga, Papua New Guinea and Micronesia.

CAIRO - 27 October 2023: France announced that it will send a special flight on Saturday for Egypt to transport 54 tons of emergency humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, media outlets reported. The Egyptian Federation for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Funding, led by Mona Zulficar, announced that the banking sector provided EGP 36.1bn in financing to 810,000 micro-projects until June 2023. Cairo – October 26, 2023: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) continued its green streak to end the week on a positive note, buoyed by yesterday’s historic session which saw all three main indices soaring with 3.36–3.64 percent gains each. Benchmark index recorded growth of .56 percent to end the session at 23,262.27 points after a strong 3.37 percent uptick on Wednesday trading. Thursday trading saw 1.14 billion shares exchanged with a turnover of LE 5.09 billion. Trading on securities saw Egyptian and Arab investors as net sellers with LE 12 million and LE 155 million, respectively. Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, has said that the country is shifting its energy sector from gas to renewable sources, such as wind and solar, to take advantage of its strategic location for accessing global markets and exporting green products. He said that the energy axis of the “NWFE” programme, in collaboration with development partners, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. He added that the electricity sector has made significant progress in attracting renewable energy investments as part of a plan to involve the private sector in increasing renewable energy capacity by about 10 gigawatts. He also said that the necessary financing has been secured by development partners within the energy axis to implement these projects, and financial closure agreements have been signed. He pointed out that the NWFE programme’s energy axis includes shutting down 5-gigawatt thermal power stations, and by the first quarter of 2024, 1-gigawatt power stations will be shut down.
