"The Chinese Communist Party's targeted military exercises further confirm its nature as an aggressor and the biggest destroyer of peace," the ministry said. Military drills are set to continue Tuesday. Taiwan's Defence Ministry released a video that featured its weapons and forces in a show of resilience.

We are now in the final week of our first year with Brian Schottenhimer as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and I think it is fair win or lose this week to give him a rating for this first year as the headman. Tough CircumstanceTwo weeks before the season started, Jerry Jones decided to trade his best defensive player, so he had to start the year without Micah Parsons. HC Brian Schottenheimer on how much winning the last game of the season to avoid a losing record matters. Heck, sometimes he can’t even tell us if a player will play or not, it has to come from Jerry! The offseason is going to be an interesting one because we all heard what Jerry Jones said about being disappointed and blah blah.
Freezing rain, blowing snow, ice pellets and strong winds are prompting weather alerts for much of Eastern Canada. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the accusation a lie, adding that Moscow was preparing the ground to strike government buildings in Kyiv. Trump hosted Zelenskyy at his Florida resort on Sunday and insisted that Ukraine and Russia are "closer than ever before" to a peace settlement. In this photograph distributed by the Russian state agency Sputnik, President Vladimir Putin chairs a meeting in Moscow on Monday. Trump said he would consider extending U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine beyond 15 years, according to Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy said he wants the 20-point peace plan under discussion to be approved by Ukrainians in a national referendum.
Sitting in Ottawa's Rainbow Bistro, preparing for his band to play a gig, former MP Charlie Angus was reflecting on the past year. "I think I was one of the first people to come out and start using terms like the fascist threat," Angus recalled. In January, while still an MP, Angus began a Substack called The Resistance with columns that stand up for Canada, warn about the risk of Trump's administration and, as Angus says, "kick at the darkness." Angus said Canadians have moved from a sense of panic and urgency in January and February to "a determination to be something different." "I think that's what Canadians want."

Woman with groceriesCanadian grocery bills may climb again in 2026, with higher meat prices expected to be a key driver, according to a new national forecast. Researchers behind Canada’s Food Price Report 2026 estimate that overall food prices could increase between 4% and 6% next year. Beef prices, in particular, are expected to rise sharply, putting pressure on household budgets and pushing up costs across the meat aisle (1). “We’re expecting another difficult year due to beef prices and, because people are pivoting towards chicken, chicken prices are also on the rise,” Sylvain Charlebois, director of Dalhousie University’s Agri-Food Analytics Lab and lead author of the report, told CBC News (2). Canadians already feeling the strainWith food prices trending upward for several years, many Canadians say they are already changing how they shop and eat.
So will 2026 be the year the IEEPA tariffs die, and if so, what will it mean for Canada and Trump’s trade war? Reading the signalsWhile the administration has said it expects the court to rule in the president’s favour, most trade experts do not. With the renegotiation of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) getting underway next summer, Packard also noted that continued IEEPA tariffs would be bad news for Canadian and Mexican negotiators. But CUSMA was deemed the “gold standard” of trade deals under the first Trump administration, Hale pointed out. Whatever the Supreme Court decides, the White House has made it abundantly clear it will pull other levers at its disposal to impose tariffs.

Canada reportedly froze $145 million of Makarov’s assets in 2022. Makarov became a billionaire from his business activities in Russia, some of which were state assisted, or state associated, with...
