Last month, Liberal MP Lisa Hepfner shocked Canadian online news outlets by stating that “they’re not news. They’re not gathering news. In the aftermath of the comments, Hepfner said nothing for weeks at Heritage committee studying Bill C-18. That bill passed third reading yesterday – I posted on the embarrassing legislative review – and Hepfner was back at it. Indeed, canvassing Hepfner’s own Facebook page reveals that she has regularly posted links to articles from the CBC.ca and Hamilton Spectator (here, here, here, and here). These examples highlight the absurdity of a law that treats links as compensable and MPs who equate those links to theft.

However only 67 per cent rated Canada’s importance in global food security as very important. Those in the 18 to 34 age group were significantly less likely than older generations to say Canadian farmers are very important, both for domestic and global food security, the survey found. It’s been a frustrating battle at times for Maple Leafs fans watching William Nylander over the last seven seasons. So the question needs to be asked: Why has there been little to no mention of a Nylander contract extension that, timing-wise at least, mirrors Matthews? In the case of the Leafs, it may also stress the importance of winning the Stanley Cup this season. So here is the burning question: Can the Leafs afford to take Nylander’s deal north of $10 million this summer? … Another sign of the salary cap crunch: the Seattle Kraken were the only team to put a waiver claim on Nashville’s 2017 first-round pick Eeli Tolvanen.

Eastern Ontario farmers impregnate dairy cows with beef semen and embryosNelson ZandbergenFarmers ForumEMBRUN — Sexed semen technology allows Ontario’s dairy herds to produce hybrid beef cattle but the technology can be a double-edged sword. The Indian River Cattle Company beef breeder Billy Elmhirst observed that dairy cattle also offer the innate advantage of higher fertility rates. He suggested that dairy producers theoretically had the capacity to “devastate” Ontario’s traditional beef producers, though Beef Farmers of Ontario President Jack Chaffe doesn’t see it that way. Nor did he see any tension between traditional beef producers and dairy farmers that produce beef as a sideline in a free market. Chaffe pointed out that dairy-cross beef animals are a little different than purebred beef and that there are “advantages and disadvantages” to them.

As MPs pass Liberal online news bill, Meta again threatens to pull contentOTTAWA — The House of Commons passed a Liberal bill on Wednesday designed to require web giants to compensate journalism outfits for reposting their content, and Meta is once again threatening to remove news content from Facebook in Canada. Companies could be exempt from the negotiation process set out in the proposed legislation, known as Bill C-18, if they already have agreements with media outlets that fulfil certain criteria. Another amendment ensured that any companies that are headquartered outside of Canada would not be captured under the bill. The Liberals and NDP have argued that such suggestions make the Tories seem like they are speaking for companies such as Meta. In response, Liberal MP Kevin Lamoureux emphasized that such companies bring in billions of dollars of revenue every year while media companies have struggled to keep up.

Are employees entitled to share ownership? The resultant relationship, with whatever problems or issues arise, will have to be sorted out between the new owner and the union. Often, providing Gopaul Lands takes over Seapaul Enterprises as a going concern, and it continues to operate in the same place, in the same way with the same employees, the employees may not even be aware the ownership has changed. Somehow, legal tangles always arise when employees’ rights under common law arise, because employees cannot be bought and sold along with machinery, stocks, acreage and other assets. The court said that that previous training and expertise “should be well reflected in the notice required at termination,” as it benefited the second employer.

When it comes to routine baby care, few things scare new parents as much as bath time. How soon should parents bathe their newborn? Either way, you don’t need to bathe your infant as frequently as you bathe yourself. If you buy a baby tub, try to get one with a hole in the bottom, so you can easily drain the water after bath time is over. Gently lower your baby into the water, making sure to support their head and neck with one of your hands.
