Next Leafs GM might not be better than Kyle Dubas, but they had to try

When general manager Kyle Dubas said everything was on the table in his Monday press conference, he put himself on the table with it. Shanahan can’t be sure he will find a better GM, but he has no choice but to try. And Shanahan decided Dubas wasn’t a part of the future. This year, the relationship between Shanahan and Dubas fractured to a point where they could not negotiate quickly and easily. The Dubas era of the Leafs is over after five years, and you can argue that it was too soon or too late or both.
