It matures in about a year with an option of withdrawing the lump sum, which was nearly $60,000 this year, or receiving monthly payments. Would I be subject to capital gains taxes for the entire $50,000 increase if I take the lump sum? Instead, the gain will be subject to higher — perhaps much higher — income tax rates, regardless of whether you choose the lump sum or monthly payments. If you opt for monthly payments instead, you’re likely giving up access to the money in an emergency. Social Security misunderstandingsDear Liz: As a former Social Security Administration employee, I can tell you there are countless times people misunderstand the information that is provided to them or only hear what they want to hear.

Danielle Smith’s new provincial cabinet. Speaking of Edmonton, all 20 of the city’s ridings went NDP, so Smith has no one from Edmonton in cabinet. And it’s a cabinet that’s pretty much a sea of white faces. That’s because while the UCP lost 14 seats on May 29, Smith has only cut two cabinet positions. Of course, a skeptic might say after losing six cabinet ministers Smith was desperate for ministers with experience.

© Provided by National Post David Johnston was wrong to blame parliamentary partisanship for the controversy over his appointment as special rapporteur and his much-criticized report on foreign interference, says letter writer Tom Curran. ‘The Laurentian Elite at its most condescending’Re: David Johnston resigns as special rapporteur into foreign interference — Ryan Tumilty, June 9How easy it could have been. “I realize that the appearance of conflict is as important as conflict itself, and I regret the fact that I was too late in coming to that realization,” David Johnston could have said. It’s safe to assume that Canadians agree with Pierre Poilievre, that enough is enough when it comes to Paul Bernardo. Appointing one of these lawyers to aid David Johnston would have gone a long way to reduce the distrust that this entire affair has produced.

Eleven days removed from Anthony Bass posting a video that labelled support for the LGBTQ community as “demonic” and “satanic,” the Jays dropped Bass from the roster. Atkins’ latest comments came 24 hours after he defended Bass during a similar availability. At the time, Atkins said he felt there was “authenticity” to Bass’s apology and that the reliever felt genuine remorse about any hurt he may have caused the LGBTQ community. About 30 minutes later, Bass answered questions on-camera for the first time and contradicted much of what Atkins just said. The Jays spent 11 days protecting a reliever who brought unnecessary attention to the organization because of his bigoted views.

Sikh Separatism in BharatThe concept of Khalistan – an ostensible sovereign Sikh state – can be traced back to the Sikh empire that reached its zenith in the middle of the nineteenth century. However, with brutal atrocities against Sikhs in Pakistan and their resettlement in Bharat, the demand for a separate Sikh state subsided. The Sikh separatist movement under the Khalistan banner reared its ugly head in the late 1970s with support from Pakistan. However, they continued to find safe havens in many Western countries, often pretending to be victims of oppression at the hands of the Bharatiya state. Therefore, the demand for a separate Sikh state to be carved out of modern-day Bharat is a silly case of barking at the wrong tree!
