"These [layoffs] weren't expected. Evraz North America laid off 170 steelworkers in Regina from May 1 to June 17, 2022 due to idling its large diameter pipe fabrication work. McKenzie said the Regina pipe mill would be down to 25 to 30 workers after this new round of layoffs.

One day before the official reveal of the Juno Awards nominees, CBC Radio show Commotion with Elamin Abdelmahmoud got a head start by announcing the Best Rap Album/EP of the Year category. Of the five nominated artists, four have previously had songs or projects of theirs nominated. Toronto rapper Jazz Cartier previously won Best Rap Recording of the Year in 2017 for his Hotel Paranoia album. Tobi famously took home the 2021 Juno for Rap Recording of the Year for his album Elements Vol. The other Juno Awards nominees will be announced tomorrow.

McKinsey a ‘distraction’ from problem of consulting contracts, researcher tells MPsOTTAWA — A researcher testifying before a parliamentary committee on the rise in government contracts awarded to McKinsey & Company said the focus on that one consulting firm is a distraction. Clarke said the reliance on management consulting firms within the public service "betrays" the principles of responsible public administration. Clarke offered several solutions to address the problem of ballooning contracts with consulting firms, including pursuing a reform of the public service. Representatives from the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada, a union representing public servants, also testified on Monday. The committee will hold its next meeting on the McKinsey contracts on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith threw down the gauntlet, accusing the CBC of defamation and demanding that the corporation retract and apologize for its January 19 report someone on her staff sent emails to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service challenging how it was handling cases stemming from last year’s highway blockade at Coutts. Well, don’t hold, your breath. A CBC report yesterday that quoted Henderson’s statement in full indicated it was drafted to respond to angry comments by supporters of the premier after Smith’s challenge was published. Henderson also noted that Smith has admitted she contacted Crown prosecutors and then later changed her story. So it would seem that Premier Smith can bluster and threaten if she likes but that there is not much she can do to prevent the CBC from pursuing the story.
