Researchers with Dalhousie University added pink fluorescent dye to Nova Scotia Power's Tufts Cove Generating Station in Dartmouth, so the colour can be tracked as it moves through the harbour over the next couple of days. It's part of an experiment that could one day help the ocean better absorb carbon dioxide. "The ultimate goal here is to test an idea for a technology that would help us reduce atmospheric CO2 and could be one tool in the toolbox for fighting climate change, basically." Everton, one of English soccer’s most storied teams, will be bought by American private investment firm 777 Partners, the club said Friday, Sept. 15, 2023. Everton is the latest storied English soccer team to come under U.S. ownership after Miami-based private investment firm 777 Partners reached a deal to buy out majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri. The transaction is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year, 777 Partners said. Everton was a founding member of the English Football League in 1888 and Premier League in 1992. 777 Partners already has stakes in a number of soccer teams through its 777 Football Group, which Everton will become part of.

To hold over any fans really jonesing for some stick-and-puck, the NHL’s yearly prospects tournament started up Thursday night. The tournament is taking place in Traverse City, Mich., from Sept. 14-17. Dallas sent 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders north to participate, one of four NHL teams doing so. Some councillors called on the province to do more to help with the homelessness situation. Knight said the province has been funding more housing support worker positions and also employees on outreach teams from Shelter Nova Scotia and Halifax. Canopy Growth Corp. has "obtained creditor protection" for its BioSteel Sports Nutrition Inc. division and "intends to seek permission to sell the business." The company pursued creditor protection from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice because its sports drink business BioSteel "no longer has access to funding." Canopy described BioSteel as a "significant drag on its profitability and cash flow," saying about 60% of the company’s adjusted EBITDA loss was "attributable to BioSteel." Canopy also "intends to launch a Chapter 15 case" in the U.S. to address its American BioSteel assets (CP, 9/14). Canopy Growth bought a majority interest in BioSteel in 2019.

The owner of sports drink company BioSteel says it has filed for creditor protection in the U.S. and Canada and is trying to find a buyer for the business. Companies undergo CCAA when they seek a court's help to protect them from their creditors. Alongside the Canadian CCAA proceedings, the company will also undergo creditor protection under Chapter 15 of the U.S. bankruptcy code. While companies do often shut down completely as a result of CCAA proceedings, they don't always. BioSteel sought creditor protection under the CCAA to conduct a court-supervised sale process for its business and property for the benefit of its stakeholders.
