Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fast becoming the latest frontier in the competition between the United States and China in Africa, as African countries are set to gain from both AI superpowers’ keen interest in collaboration to advance AI innovation on the continent. However, it also found that China led globally in terms of AI patents with 61.1%, while the US accounted for only 20%. And as a recent article in Voice of America pointed out, the future of AI in Africa will be shaped by the competition between the US and China. “To advance in AI research and innovation, African countries will need significant investments in computing infrastructure,” said Chinasa T. Okolo, a fellow at The Brookings Institution. Qatar Airways is close to completing an equity investment in an undisclosed southern African carrier as it seeks to deepen its network across Africa. “We are at the final stage of an equity investment in an airline in the southern part of Africa,” Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al Meer said during a panel discussion at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha, adding that a deal could be announced in two to three weeks. An invasive lizard from Africa that has settled in South Florida was spotted moving up the coast of the Sunshine State. The Peter's rock agama has made its way north to parts of Central Florida, with residents of West Melbourne taking notice of the red-headed reptiles. Ken Gioeli, a natural resources extension agent with the University of Florida, told the station that he refers to the lizards’ move up the coast as "the invasion front." Adult male Peter’s rock agamas can grow to be 12 inches long, while females of the species can reach lengths of 4 to 5 inches. It is believed the lizard was introduced to Florida as pets that either escaped or were released.

ECOWAS Countries involved in the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline are expected to sign a final investment decision in 2025, according to Morocco’s oil and mines authority ONHYM. Speaking at a forum in Rabat, head of development at ONHYM recalled that the pipeline will cross 13 countries and stretch over 7000 kilometers. The cost of the pipeline was revised upwards to 25 billion dollars as pre-feasibility and engineering studies have been accomplished already in early 2024. Countries that will benefit from the project and financial institutions will sign a deal by year’s end, defining the legal framework. In 2022, Morocco’s ONHYM, Nigeria’s National Petroleum Corporation and the ECOWAS signed a Memorandum of Understanding to speed up the project.
