Ecuador closes Polisario’s representation, asks separatists to leave the country – The North Africa Post

The decision to end diplomatic relations with the Polisario is a significant shift in Ecuador’s foreign policy. The so-called representation of the Algeria-backed Polisario, which had been listed on Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, has now been deleted from records. Ecuador has also ordered the separatist representatives to close their mission in the country and leave. Gabriela Sommerfeld, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, had then notified her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, of the decision in a phone call. The timing of Ecuador’s decision is significant as it comes just a day after Panama announced a similar move to suspend diplomatic relations with the Polisario.

The only goal of the contest in El Jadida came in the 10th minute through Marlene Kasaj’s penalty after AS FAR captain Aziza Rabbah was penalised for handball. The side from DR Congo should have doubled their lead six minutes later when an unmarked Merveille Kanjinga fired wide from seven yards out. TP Mazembe boss Lamia Boumehdi was thrown into the air by her players amid the celebrations as the Lubumbashi outfit became the third winners of the African Women's Champions League. The Ravens pick up a cheque for $600,000 (£479,000) after the prize money was increased for the fourth edition of the tournament, while the runners-up receive $400,000 (£319,000).

Morocco and Spain conducted a joint operation dismantling a terrorist cell loyal to IS with operations in the Sahel, Moroccan anti-terrorism agency BCIJ said. Nine individuals have been arrested in this operation in the Moroccan cities of Tetouan and Fnideq and in Madrid, Ibiza and Ceuta. BCIJ said the equipment seized during the operation, including bladed weapons and electronic devices, will undergo forensic analyses. Preliminary investigations showed the suspects, some of whom were previously imprisoned in Spain on terrorism-related charges, were promoting Daesh ideology and holding meetings in Sebta and Tetouan as part of planning and coordinating terrorist activities in the name of Daesh, with the intent to eventually join the organization’s branch in the Sahel region south of the Sahara, BCIJ said. The statement highlighted that this joint operation falls within the framework of the continuous and exceptional security coordination between Moroccan and Spanish security agencies to counter the terrorist threats facing the two nations.
