Greece is expanding its plans into the renewable fuel value chain, promising to decarbonize its industry and heavy vehicle transport, with an ambitious green hydrogen production plan to feed the large German market and intermediate points along the axis of Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Germany is set to become Europe’s largest hydrogen import market. It recently approved a plan to build, by 2032, a 9,040-kilometer hydrogen network worth 19 billion euros. Germany’s hydrogen needs are estimated at 130 terawatt-hours per year by 2030, of which 100 TWh will be imported, with Berlin also eyeing Greece, which aspires to become a hydrogen producer and exporter, a plan to utilize the surplus domestic renewables’ production. Gas grid operator DESFA sources explain that the German interest “focuses on the Greek contribution, as a central part of a hydrogen corridor to actively support the energy transition of Germany and Central Europe,” thanks to Greece’s “capacity for low-cost green hydrogen production, geostrategic position for quantity transit from the Middle East and North Africa, and geopolitical security.”

The scatter plot (a) compares the annual observed discharge (x-axis) with the simulated discharge (y-axis) from the VegDischarge v1 data for selected river basin outlets discharge into the seas in Africa. The VegDischarge v1 depiction of average discharge offers valuable insights for water resource management, highlighting the temporal and spatial variations in water availability. These maps present the monthly distribution of river discharge across Africa, revealing the seasonal dynamics of flow in major river basins. The South Atlantic Ocean receives the largest discharge from the African continent (1327.2 km³·year −1 ), accounting for 40.6% of Africa’s total river discharge. Even if the immediate military impact could be limited, Europeans must prepare for an expanding military partnership between North Korea and Russia. The deployment of North Korean troops to Russia represents a significant shift in European and Asian security relations. North Korea’s troop numbers are likely too small to tip the balance of what has become a protracted, attritional conflict. The more pressing concern for Europeans is the potential for expanded North Korean military involvement in Ukraine. The Korean National Intelligence Service has been especially important for Europeans seeking information on North Korean troop activities.
