Tripoli, Libya – Libya’s National Elections Commission headquarters hosted a seminar on “Political Pluralism in Electoral Campaigns” on Saturday, as the path towards long-awaited presidential and parliamentary polls remains unclear despite intense UN efforts to broker agreement between political rivals. The commission said the seminar was organized by the Libyan Center for Freedom of the Press in partnership with the North Africa and Middle East Media Observatory. He described the media as the “locomotive to successful elections in Libya.”Waleed Sayala, director of voter registration and external operations at the elections commission, participated in a discussion session on the role of civil society groups and international missions in monitoring polls. Attendees addressed issues related to political pluralism in media coverage and campaign propaganda methods. They discussed the role of fact-checking platforms in verifying electoral developments and how to provide fair journalistic coverage of all voting stages.
