The Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has removed Khagrachhari District Council Chairperson Jiruna Tripura from her post over allegations of corruption and misconduct. The decision was announced in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Mangal Chandra Pal on Tuesday afternoon. On Jul 7 this year, the ministry had ordered her to refrain from all council activities following a number of allegations. Complaints included disregard for 14 council members, inappropriate behaviour, undermining heads and staff of transferred departments, unilateral decision-making, favouritism, teacher transfer irregularities, blocking contractor bills for bribes, and other corrupt practices. Appointed on Nov 7, 2024, Jiruna has faced criticism over her conduct and actions since taking office.
