It further directed that 60 per cent of the wagons should be assembled in-country and 40 per cent imported. Osinbajo said that President Muhammadu Buhari was passionate about the railway modernisation project as it holds the key to transforming commerce in Nigeria and on the continent, by linking the ports to the rail lines, just as building the railway rolling stock locally would further spur import and export businesses. He said the siting of the plant in the country and the commitment to hiring Nigerians and Nigerian businesses, affirms the President’s directive in Executive Order 5 on prioritising Nigerians and their businesses in the innovation, production, and procurement of engineering projects and services. In his remarks, the Managing Director of CCECC, Jiang Yigao, said the corporation would support the Federal Government in its determination to develop railway transportation across the country.
