Cairo Monodrama to feature ‘Burrnesha’ play, a story of women becoming men


Italian actress Marina Eva presented the play “Burrnesha” amidst a large audience at the Cairo International Monodrama Festival. Director Valbona Casiperi explains that this is the story of a fictional character inspired by the real Balkan sworn virgins, or Burrnesha, women who take a vow of chastity to life as men. It stars actress Marina Eva and is directed by Valbona Casiperi. The Cairo International Monodrama Festival’s sixth session began on October 1 and continues until October 5, headed by Osama Raouf and held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture, Nevine al-Kilani. The sixth session of the festival is attended by several countries from all over the world, including the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Sudan, Italy, Argentina, Germany, Palestine, Morocco, France, Georgia, Mexico and Kuwait.
