Disaster training part of student programme

Disaster training part of student programmeSupplied Having more people on the ground who know what to do in an emergency is behind the Emergency Service Training WorkshopA tsunami, serious house fire, or being first on the scene at a serious car crash. The emergency services are usually not far away but the more people on the ground that have the skills to be of genuine help straight out of the gate, in an emergency, the better. This is the thinking behind a new pilot programme partnering with Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management, local emergency services and volunteer organisations to provide a three day training workshop for 15 -18 year olds. Each student will get a NZQA First Aid certificate and work through scenarios where this knowledge could be used. Held at the Orewa police station, transport will be provided from local Rodney police stations (no word on whether this will include flashing lights).
