Students from CNN Academy Abu Dhabi and several local universities gained invaluable insights and a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) as they participated in a special masterclass led by one of the world’s leading technologists, philanthropists and Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates. Becky Anderson, Managing Editor of CNN Abu Dhabi and anchor of Connect the World with Becky Anderson, moderated the conversation that addressed how emerging technologies today, especially AI, can tackle global challenges such as disease eradication, climate change, and food security in underserved regions. Students were also interested to learn how the Gates Foundation identifies challenges and mobilises innovative solutions to bring about meaningful change. In addition to the foundation’s work, Bill Gates has also taken on projects to address issues such as delivering clean energy and scaling critical solutions to reach net-zero emissions. Launched in Abu Dhabi in 2020, CNN Academy is a pioneering training experience led by CNN’s anchors, correspondents and technical specialists from around the world.

MLB to test robot umpires as part of challenge system at next Spring training, plans use in 2026 regular seasonMajor League Baseball (MLB) will test the use of robot umpires as part of a challenge system during Spring training next year, with the aim of implementing the system in the 2026 regular season. “I think we will have a Spring training ABS test that will provide a meaningful opportunity for all Major League players to see what the challenge system will look like,” Manfred said on Wednesday at the league’s owners meetings. Although Manfred admitted that he “would be interested” in bringing in the ABS challenge system for the 2026 regular season, the commissioner added that the players’ experience with it will go a long way in deciding when it will be implemented. The ABS technology has been trialed in minor league baseball for years now. The ABS technology uses Hawk-Eye cameras to track the location of each pitch in relation to the strike zone.

Scepticism and hostility to expertise portend poorly for policies on vaccines, health insurance coverage, Medicaid, and female reproductive rights. Trump’s choices of staff for the new administration is a case in point. Robert F Kennedy Jr, nominated as health secretary,1 has displayed ignorance of how science and medicine work, hostility to vaccination, a penchant for spreading misinformation, ignorance of how Medicare and Medicaid—the government’s main health programmes— operate, and has no management experience or knowledge to lead a department with a $1.8tn (£1.4tn; €1.7tn) budget and 80 000 employees.23 These deficiencies are …

Economic Recession Signs Loom As Interest Rates Rise Rising borrowing costs and consumer uncertainty raise concerns about potential recession amid economic indicators. Warnings of economic recession are becoming more pronounced as indicators like rising interest rates and fluctuated consumer sentiments coalesce to paint a troubling picture for many households and businesses. Recently, the Federal Reserve initiated its decision to raise interest rates once again, marking the highest levels not seen since the early 2000s. The cost of borrowing extends beyond mortgages to personal loans and credit cards, where increased interest rates mean higher monthly payments. If you feel the shake-up from rising interest rates, you’re not alone.

It was not the first time that a wildfire has kept field workers from earning a living. Samuel said he experienced a similar episode while picking fruit in Ventura County during the Thomas fire of 2017-2018. A majority of farming operations in Ventura County are smaller growers that might not have crop insurance or are underinsured because fire coverage is not available for all farms. California's basic fire insurance program is limited to coverage for farm structures and is prohibitively expensive, said Maureen McGuire, executive officer for the Farm Bureau of Ventura County. More than 2,800 people responded as of Thursday, with 91% of those responses coming from field workers.

I thought I was prepared for every malicious, horrible and insane repercussion of a Trump presidency. But the idea that Trump could end racism? Recommended VideosIn an intellectual discussion with Hulk Hogan (an absurdity on its own) Fox News host Laura Ingraham told the retired pro-wrestler turned Trump supporter that she believes Donald Trump has the ability to “end racism.” Yes, you read that correctly. Laura Ingraham thinks that the man who referred to Haiti and African nations as “sh*thole countries” and has referred to Mexicans as “rapists” is will somehow be able to stop other people from being racist. Watching these two debate racism is like watching two piles of cow shit debate cologne brands.

Your further reflexive impulse to ascribe only the most hateful and ignorant motives to people that don’t share your political perspective and voting preferences reflect more the machinations of a shrill ideologue than the probing of a legitimate editor. It appears the timing is indeed right for you to move on to other endeavors. My wife and I will always appreciate the drive and passion you brought to running our community newspaper, but we will not at all miss the brittle arrogance and condescension of your political analysis. It appears Vought was right and the story that Trump had nothing to do with Project 2025 was, indeed, just political cover. One of the first things Biden did when he took office was to rescind Trump’s executive order making that shift. Since the first administration of President George Washington, agencies created by Congress have lived in the Executive Branch. Their op-ed begins by redefining congressional authority to create agencies to suggest that agencies are illegitimate. “This would liberate individuals and businesses from illicit regulations never passed by Congress and stimulate the U.S. economy,” they write.
