Maybe its just me, but you are not going to win many votes in Michigan by dissing its largest city. That is, however, precisely what Donald Trump did while speaking on Thursday at the Detroit Economic Club. As he was speaking about China being a developing nation, Trump said: “Well, we’re a developing nation too, just take a look at Detroit. Trump repeatedly accuses others of being stupid, but with these comments he really put his foot in his mouth and gave Democrats an opening to attack him. Lets hope that Trump’s attack on Detroit pushed some of the seing state’s undecided voters to vote for Harris.

Michael WindridgeFritton, NorfolkSir, Concerns about the Conservative Party’s leadership contest stem from an out-of-date voting system (“Badenoch v Jenrick as Tory leadership race takes new twist”, Oct 10). Harold ThimblebyEmeritus professor of computer science, Swansea UniversityAdvertisementSir, I joined the Conservative Party to vote against Boris Johnson becoming PM. Sir Roger Gale is spot on in saying “many loyal members of the Conservative Party will feel disenfranchised by this result”. If managing this process rationally is too challenging for the Conservative Party, one wonders how it would manage the country. First, by funding UK research into the transparency and safety of robotics, and how to carry out thorough accident investigations.

The Democratic state senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, whose district includes much of the west side of Manhattan where a date on Trump’s “arena tour” rally has been booked at Madison Square Garden, called on venue owners to cancel the event. “Allowing Trump to hold an event at MSG is equivalent to the infamous Nazis rally at Madison Square Garden on February 20, 1939.”Hoylman-Sigal was referring to a pro-Hitler rally, organized by the German American Bund, that was attended by more than 20,000 people and featured a portrait of George Washington flanked by swastikas. Trump has previously said he had hoped to hold a rally at Madison Square Garden, home to sports teams such as the New York Knicks and the Rangers, and the most prestigious rock venue in the country. “We’re going to be doing a rally at Madison Square Garden, we believe,” Trump said in April. “We think we’re signing Madison Square Garden to do.

Eighteen theatregoers at Stuttgart’s state opera required medical treatment for severe nausea over the weekend after watching a performance that included live piercing, unsimulated sexual intercourse and copious amounts of fake and real blood. “Good technique in dance to me is not just someone who can do a perfect tendu, but also someone who can urinate on cue,” Holzinger told the Guardian in an interview earlier this year . Sancta, Holzinger’s first foray into opera, premiered at the Mecklenburg state theatre in Schwerin in May, and is based on Paul Hindemith’s 1920s expressionist opera Sancta Susanna, which has its own history of controversy. It was originally meant to premiere at Stuttgart’s state opera in 1921, but was not put on stage until 1922 after protests against its allegedly sacrilegious content. All five remaining shows at the Stuttgart state opera, as well as two performances at Berlin’s Volksbühne in November have since sold out.

For too long, the UK economy has suffered from chronic underinvestment. Had the economy matched its global peers over this period, nearly £2 trillion more would have been available to build hospitals, schools, factories and clean energy. Underinvestment weighs on growth and lowers wages. The UK has fallen second-last for GDP and productivity growth in the G7, and is bottom of the pile on average real income growth since the financial crisis. The clean energy transition, the AI revolution, and the reshaping of global trade will each require enormous

In fact, I have used Slice when ordering from our local pizza shop. Slice.com was the ideal domain name that the company has coveted, but it was owned and used by a major corporation. Within the last week or so, Slice acquired Slice.com. Ilir Sela, Founder and CEO of Slice, wrote about the acquisition on LinkedIn yesterday afternoon. In the meantime, I added Slice to the Embrace.com list of companies that upgraded its domain name.

Nathan Ferguson set up both goals at Southend United but will miss the trip to Taunton as he’s on international duty. Photo: Darren Woolley--Maidenhead United will look to maintain the momentum they've gathered over the past couple of weeks when they travel to Taunton Town for their FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie on Saturday afternoon. “Everyone did their jobs, and it was a really good team performance. There’s a big crowd there who make it difficult, so it was a really good performance. All I can do is praise the boys because it was just a really good performance.

Multiple tornadoes were spotted in Florida as a weakening but still tremendously powerful Hurricane Milton slammed into the state’s west coast on Wednesday night, arriving as a category 3 storm and leaving more than 2m homes without power. The cyclone, described earlier in the day by Joe Biden as 'the storm of the century', made landfall near Sarasota, Florida, just after 8.30pm ET, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. It brought a deadly storm surge to much of Florida’s Gulf coast, including densely populated areas such as Tampa, St Petersburg, Sarasota and Fort Myers. Despite losing some of its potency to wind shear as it neared the coast, Milton, which had churned in the Gulf of Mexico over the last two days as a category 5 storm, was still one of the strongest hurricanes to strike the US mainland in recent memory
