The town of Deal in Kent was recently named one of the best places to go for a winter getaway by Time Out. The outlet listed the areas of the UK that offer "a cosy weekend" getaway with the fresh sea air and snug pubs as key features. Deal was described as being the best place to head for "cosy-loving foodies" as Time Out wrote: "Plenty of places in Kent are magical in winter (we’re looking at you, Whitstable and Margate), but for a proper cosy little getaway, there’s nowhere better than Deal. The Daily Telegraph says Chancellor Rachel Reeves is planning to introduce a new tax on high-value homes in the Budget, external. The report says 2.4m properties - across the council tax bands F, G and H - will be affected by the move. Ms Reeves has ditched plans to raise income tax which, according to The Daily Mail, shows she has "lost control", external. PUBS are pushing up the prices of beer at peak times as they try to claw back lost profits due to Labour’s tax raid on boozers. And it’s not just London pubs that are charging punters more at peak times. While Stonegate, which has 4,500 pubs around the country, also charges punters more on midweek evenings between 5-7pm and on weekends. Pubs are “desperately trying to serve reasonably priced pints, yet barely any profits are earned,” says CAMRA Pub and Club Campaigns Director Gary Timmins. He added: “These vital community spaces are paying the price of last year’s Budget – a double tax whammy that is closing pubs for good.
