3.18pm BSTDouglas Ross’s decision to stand to be an MP has left a “bad taste” in the north-east Scotland constituency where he is running, first minister John Swinney has said. The Scottish Conservative leader put himself forward as candidate for Aberdeenshire North and Moray East after David Duguid was told by the party’s management board that he could not stand due to his ill-health. Ross said he would step down as leader shortly afterwards, when his colleagues expressed unhappiness at the move. Boundary changes mean that Aberdeenshire North and Moray East is being contested for the first time, but most of the constituency was in Banff and Buchan, previously represented by Duguid. While campaigning in Keith, Moray, alongside SNP candidate Seamus Logan on Sunday, Swinney told the PA news agency:

"Today is the day when the world begins to approach a just peace. Thank you for participating in the Global Peace Summit! ", -- ZelenskyRussian President Vladimir Putin’s June 14 information operation about Russia's supposed “willingness to negotiate” on extreme terms tantamount to Ukraine's capitulation is succeeding in confusing the purpose of the Ukrainian-initiated Global Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15. [3]Kremlin mouthpieces amplified ongoing Russian information operations intended to further discredit and disrupt the Global Peace Summit on June 15. Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov criticized the West's "unconstructive" responses to Putin's June 14 ultimatums and claimed that the Kremlin hopes someone will hold a "more constructive" peace summit at a later, unspecified date.

The fortnightly Essential Research should also be along on Tuesday, and as always Roy Morgan will come through on Monday. The party will have to reopen nominations in Braddon, for which the failure of Pearce or anyone else to nominate last week was the first indication of his impending retirement. Both were candidates in Braddon at the March state election, respectively polling 2.1% and 2.6% on a Liberal ticket dominated by Premier Jeremy Rockliff. • Another retirement announcement last week was that of Maria Vamvakinou, who has held the safe Labor seat of Calwell in northern Melbourne since 2001. This would require reopening nominations for the seat, but Kean would likely have enough support to accomplish this.

The UK general election is being watched closely after stark warnings that rapid advancements in cyber-tech, particularly AI, and increasing friction between major nations threaten the integrity of 2024's landmark votes. The UK election on July 4 -- four months before the United States -- will be seen as the "guinea pig" for election security, said Bruce Snell, cyber-security strategist at US firm Qwiet AI, which uses AI to prevent cyber-attacks. State actors are expected to be the main threat, with the UK already issuing warnings about China and Russia. - Deepfakes -But hacking of institutions remains a threat, and the UK has already accused China of being behind an attack on the Electoral Commission. It's something that we definitely didn't have in the last election," said Snell, calling the UK a "guinea pig" for 2024's votes.

The poll was conducted from June 12 to June 14 for the Sunday Telegraph.Labour's 25-point lead was the largest since the premiership of Sunak's predecessor, Liz Truss, whose tax cut plans prompted investors to dump British government bonds, pushing up interest rates and forcing a Bank of England intervention. "Our research suggests that this election could be nothing short of electoral extinction for the Conservative Party," Chris Hopkins, political research director at Savanta, said.A separate poll by Survation, published by the Sunday Times, predicted the Conservatives could end up with just 72 seats in the 650-member House of Commons - the lowest in their nearly 200-year history - while Labour would win 456 seats. The poll was conducted from May 31 to June 13.In percentage terms, the Survation poll had Labour on 40% and the Conservatives on 24%, while former Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage's Reform UK party - a right-wing challenger to the Conservatives - was on 12%.A third poll, by Opinium for Sunday's Observer and conducted from June 12 to June 14, also showed Labour on 40%, the Conservatives on 23% and Reform on 14%, with the two largest parties yielding ground to smaller rivals.

U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party is headed for a historic wipeout in the July 4 general election, according to three new polls. An MRP poll by Survation published in the Times predicts the Labour opposition will win a 262-seat majority in Parliament, with the Conservatives cut to just 72 seats. Opinium’s survey for the Observer showed Labour with a 17-point lead, and Savanta predicted "electoral extinction” for Sunak’s party in a poll for the Sunday Telegraph. The figures indicate Sunak’s weak position going into the campaign has deteriorated since he called the surprise vote three weeks ago. They suggest the Conservatives headed for their worst defeat since the party was formed two centuries ago, with less than half the seats they had after a rout in 1906.

Beginning a petition on Change.org, Shutters called out food manufacturing corporation Mars, for their use of synthetic food dyes in M&M’s. Simultaneously, in 2008 the European Union announced their plan to add warning labels to all food products that contain artificial food coloring. In 2010, warning labels reading “May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children” were successfully implemented. Possibly in an attempt to avoid the requirement of warning labels, some companies have actually changed their ingredients in the EU. “Toxicology of food dyes.” n.d. PubMed.

The publisher and the incoming editor of The Washington Post, when they worked as journalists in London two decades ago, used fraudulently obtained phone and company records in newspaper articles, according to a former colleague, a published account of a private investigator and an analysis of newspaper archives. Will Lewis, The Post’s publisher, assigned one of the articles in 2004 as business editor of The Sunday Times. Another was written by Robert Winnett, whom Mr. Lewis recently announced as The Post’s next executive editor. The use of deception, hacking and fraud is at the heart of a long-running British newspaper scandal, one that toppled a major tabloid in 2010 and led to years of lawsuits by celebrities who said that reporters improperly obtained their personal documents and voice mail messages. Mr. Lewis has maintained that his only involvement in the controversy was helping to root out problematic behavior after the fact, while working for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation.
