London has lots of lovely high streets, but which one is the best? The paper has just published a list of the seven best shopping streets in the UK, and one is in south London. Greenwich was named the fifth best high street in the country. The UK’s best high street on the list was Lymington in Hampshire, ‘a best-of-both-worlds high street where the architectural grandeur of a market town can be enjoyed alongside seaside souvenir shops and the smell of the ocean’. You can read more about the Times’ other UK high street picks on Time Out here.

In the run-up to July's election, the Guardian video team is touring the UK looking at issues that matter to communities. In the town of Port Talbot, in the Aberafan Maesteg constituency, many voters are worried about the future of the steelworks where at least 2,800 jobs are on the line. We spoke to businesses, food banks and charities and politicians, all worried about the knock-on effect on families who have been steelworkers for generations. We also heard voters' other concerns and asked politicians what people were saying about the steelworks on the doorstep

Via the Transition Finance Markets Review (TFMR), the UK Government is the latest political entity to commission a review into the growing transition finance sector, exploring how best to establish itself as a global hub for transition finance. To avoid the misallocation of finance, reputational damage and accusations of greenwashing, the Review should implement guardrails on transition finance to:Ensure “additionality”, e.g. Companies could end up effectively using this (cheaper) finance for “dirty”/non-transition activities,Make transition finance standards binding,Clearly distinguish between companies that are exiting from fossil fuel production, from those companies still dependent on their use, where transition finance is needed to replace old combustion related technologies or processes with, typically, electrification,Distinguish between ‘green finance’ and ‘transition finance’ as companies receiving transition finance won’t necessarily deploy this money to develop green assets, which would encourage market participants to financing both transitioning companies and pure-play green companies separately. Over time, an international approach to transition finance and alignment will be fundamental, building upon the COP28 focus on transition finance to unlock capital and align with commitments set out in the Paris Agreement. ————————————————-[1] RMI, Defining Transition Finance: Exploring Its Purpose, Scope, and Credibility, https://rmi.org/defining-transition-finance-exploring-its-purpose-scope-and-credibility/[2] OECD, Guidance on Transition Finance: Ensuring Credibility of Corporate Climate Transition Plans, https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/sites/b0d62d2b-en/index.html?itemId=/content/component/b0d62d2b-en[3] LSE Grantham Institute, What does Article 2.1c of the Paris Agreement mean for central banks?

I very quickly fell into a relationship with another woman, who I loved dearly, but struggled to find the desire to explore my sexuality with her. I was jealous of her freedom to explore her sexuality without shame. I questioned my queerness and my self-worth and set out to explore my sexuality without worrying what other people think. But I am struggling to find independence free from shame and guilt. You really DO know what you want: “love and intimacy”.

The land at Old Montrose in Angus is steeped in history being previously owned by Robert the Bruce and subsequently by James Graham, the 5th Earl and the 1st Marquis of Montrose, often referred to simply as 'Montrose' and an heroic figure in Scottish history. Old Montrose has been managed to the highest of standards by the vendors and vendor's family for three generations, stretching back almost a century. The farm steading at Old Montrose comprises an extensive range of high quality agricultural buildings, mainly of modern construction, providing potato cold and ambient storage, grain storage, grain drying facilities and general purpose sheds. In contrast to the predominantly arable nature of the farm is an area known as The Lurgies, covering approximately 70 acres. The very special position of this well maintained farm with contrasting views and wildlife-rich tidal estuary only add to the many advantages of Old Montrose."

Not since the 2014/15 season, which came after David Moyes' struggles in 2013/14, have they been outside of both the Champions League and Europa League. Alongside the Conference League and Champions League, instead of eight different groups, 36 teams will be placed into one giant league table for the first phase of the tournament. In essence, the knockout 'table' - more commonly seen as a grid and pathway to the final - will be formed based on rankings from the league. Into the round of 16 and those ranked first to eighth in the initial league table will face the winners of the play-off ties. The last two group games are played in January before the knockout play-offs start in February, and the round-of-16 in March.

When four years ago it saw that our British high streets were emptier and shabbier, Historic England went on a shopping spree, injecting almost £100m into a new programme across 67 notable shopping streets (a project known as High Streets Heritage Action Zones). These high streets will go on to survive and thrive over the next few years, and here are seven of the buzziest — so bustling you can base a weekend round them. Stop at peaceful Paper Flower for handmade cards and gifts (37 High Street) and family-owned Norden for hip homewares (norden.online) or put your pet first and shop at Barker & Bone, a designer boutique for the discerning dog (and cat) owner (47 High Street). If you’re visiting this postcard-pretty Northumberland town to indulge one of these niche interests, the good news is there’s a fantastic high street too. Santiago continued to teach for nearly a decade before he was charged with sexually abusing 10 students at Adelante. The latest lawsuit alleges that school staff and the district’s current interim superintendent, Imee Almazan, were not only aware of Santiago’s inappropriate behavior but also chose not to notify the police. Superintendent Almazan declined to comment. All mandatory reporters are required by law to report all known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. The lawsuit alleges former Alum Rock superintendent Stephen Fiss instructed staff not to call law enforcement in response to the complaints.

Once, I lived close enough to join various anti-war and rights protests, corral signatures at grocery stores, even walk door-to-door canvassing for underdog congressional candidates. My first campaign was San Mateo, 1968, supporting the youthful, iconoclastic anti-Vietnam War Congressional Republican Pete McCloskey (who just died in May). DADDIO | Official Trailer (2024)The film screens on Tuesday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m. Limited individual tickets are available below. For writer-director Christy Hall, the origins of Daddio were in fact all of those, beginning when she was a youngster in a small town in Oklahoma. "As a kid, there was a show on HBO called Taxicab Confessions that I was way too young to be watching. But I remember I would sneak downstairs in the house and put it on and watch it in the dark. Immediately following the screening, Deadline's chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on PBS SoCal's Must See Movies, moderates an in-person Q&A with director/writer Christy Hall.
