If ever I wanted an independent to win then this is it. Streeting is one of the worst people in the PLP but even he's better than someone who celebrates this sort of thing. I don't think the character of a person can be determined from one deleted tweet but in her own words.... I’m not here to represent corporate interests or party agendas, I’m simply here to represent my people. I’m not subjected to any party lines or party whips, so that’s what makes me different – a true voice of the people by the people.”I hope Streeting gets beat.

The crowd of 800 cheered as pyrotechnics lit up the theater stage in Clacton-on-Sea, a faded English seaside town, and the lyrics of an Eminem song boomed out: “Guess who’s back, back again?”The answer is Nigel Farage, supporter of former President Donald J. Trump, Brexit campaigner and Britain’s best known political disrupter, who leads a new insurgent party that rails against immigration and promises to upend Britain’s impending general election. Never before elected to the British Parliament, Mr. Farage is running to represent the Clacton area, and opinion surveys suggest he has a strong chance of winning. “The establishment are terrified, the Conservatives are terrified,” Mr. Farage declared gleefully, referring to the governing party, which trails badly in opinion polls ahead of the July 4 election. Britain was “a broken nation,” he added, in a speech attacking targets ranging from asylum seekers to the BBC. A polarizing, pugilistic figure and a highly skilled communicator, Mr. Farage, 60, helped the Conservatives to a landslide victory in the last general election by not running candidates from his Brexit Party in certain key areas.

I would say places like Torbay have got better days to look forward to.”Like many of the election candidates, a key issue Farage identified for the Bay was crime and anti-social behaviour.

Cups were thrown at Gareth Southgate after full-time in CologneGareth Southgate was targeted by empty plastic cups from angry England supporters after their dull goalless draw against Slovenia. But despite avoiding the half of the draw that includes Germany, France, Spain and Portugal by topping the group, there were still frustrations from the England supporters inside the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. And after the Slovenia draw, a video circulating on social media showed some fans booing and throwing plastic cups in Southgate's direction as the manager walked around the pitch to applaud the travelling support. I'm asking the players to be fearless so I won't back down from going over to thank the fans. Empty cups thrown at Gareth Southgate as he applauds the England supporters.

Large organisations seem to suffer the opposite, maybe because people lower down are seeking the next rung up the ladder. This creates a culture of putting the image of the organisation ahead of the right thing to do. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, maybe it is a duck! On other occasions a quiet word to a supervisor, or directly to a colleague when they are seen pilfering, is more appropriate than a full blast on a whistle. Think how many people must have known or suspected things were not right and kept quiet?

✕ Close Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer respond to Harry Kane's 'not won anything' jibe after criticismEngland finished top and Slovenia also advanced to the knockout stages of Euro 2024 after an uninspiring 0-0 draw in their final Group C match on Tuesday. England had already qualified for the round of 16 and, despite another flat performance, the draw leaves them in first place in the group on five points. Slovenia finished level on three points with Denmark, who drew 0-0 with Serbia, and though they had the same goal difference, goals scored and disciplinary record, the Danes appeared to have advanced in second place due to their UEFA ranking, going through with Slovenia, subject to confirmation. England had the best of the action in a tepid game of few real chances, with Harry Kane and Phil Foden forcing easy saves from goalkeeper Jan Oblak and Bukayo Saka having a goal ruled out in the first half for offside. England dominated possession but had few shots on target as Slovenia defended resolutely and tried to crowd out every attack from their frustrated opponents.

Created by Pulse Creative and directed by Henry Dean, this simple and effective campaign shines a light on British periodical The Times’ down-to-earth coverage of the UK’s upcoming general election. The spot opens with the iconic Westminster bench, placed in the middle of an average secondary school playground. It takes us through a series of common places across the UK, from food shops to estate agents to train stations, highlighting how The Times makes it easy to understand the ways in which the general election will affect aspects of our everyday life. Director Dean had this to say about working on the project: “As with anything topical, one of our main challenges was a tight timeframe. Either way, we had to get the campaign ready so it could be launched at a moment’s notice, and have as much of a shelf-life as possible.

In his first start of the tournament Torres coolly slid home Dani Olmo’s clever pass to notch his 20th international goal - including five at major tournaments. It wrapped up a perfect Euro 2024 group stage, with three wins from three, no goals conceded and key players able to get some rest before the knockout stages. “I will try to make things difficult for my coach so that he will like to play me,” said Torres. But he insisted that there was nothing negative about it, declaring: “There is no need to look for second interpretations. We've completed the 'perfect' group stage – three wins and no goals conceded.

Will Lewis, now the publisher of the Washington Post, was in full crisis mode in 2011. Then an executive at a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, he was an intermediary to the police detectives investigating a British phone-hacking scandal that had placed the company’s journalists and top leaders in legal peril. For years, reporters at News Corporation’s best-selling British tabloid had landed scoops by paying public officials and illegally listening to the voice mail messages of royals, politicians, celebrities and even a murdered girl. Mr. Lewis was supposed to cooperate with the police, identify wrongdoing and help steer the company through the crisis. His role, he would later say, was as a force for good.
