Lahore – Pakistan thrashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the ITF Asia 12&Under Team Competition-South Asia Zone in Kathmandu, Nepal. The ITF event is being participated by Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, hosts Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan. Muhammad Abid is the captain of Pakistan team and the team members are Abubakar Talha, Hamza Ali Rizwan and Omar Jawad. On the third day of the event, in the boys singles, Hamza Ali Rizwan (Pak) outsmarted Gracen kubherane MAYOORAN (Sri) by 6-1, 6-0. Abubakar Talha (Pak) then outpaced Bomullage Risith Devnaka SOMARATNA (Sri) by 6-3, 6-4.

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred two more Kashmiri youth in Shopian district. According to Kashmir Media Service, the troops martyred the youth during a cordon and search operation in Kanjikullar area of the district. The troops sealed all entry and exit points of the area, restricting the movement of the residents. They also did not allow the media persons to enter the area. The occupation authorities have suspended the internet service in Kanjikullar and its surrounding areas to prevent people from sharing information about the prevailing situation.

The Missouri Bicentennial Mural will be dedicated at 2:30 p.m. June 23 at the Harry S. Truman Office Building in Jefferson City. Best Hands of Missouri artists Aaron Horrell and Barb Bailey began painting the mural in April 2019, Bailey said. Horrell came up with the mural idea because he wanted as many citizens as possible to have a hand in the painting of the Bicentennial Mural. Painters of the mural came from 358 Missouri towns, 30 states and 17 countries, according to the news release. People can see the Missouri Bicentennial Mural at the Truman Building during regular visitor hours, which are 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Livestock Department distributed 400 poultry units among applicants in district Chiniot on Wednesday. Director Livestock Dr Haider Ali Khan said that 150 poultry units had been distributed in each tehsil — Chiniot and Boawana and 100 units in tehsil Lalian. He said that each poultry unit consists of five hens and a male hen, which is being given to farmers at the rate of Rs 1140. He said that basic aim of the scheme was to provide quality protein in the shape of eggs and meat to people. He said that distribution of poultry units in all four districts of the Faisalabad division was continuing in phases.

The rupee lost 0.63% (or Rs1.30) to stand at Rs205.16 against the greenback compared to Monday’s close at Rs203.86, according to the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) data. The rupee plunged to a new all-time intra-day low of Rs205.77 before partly recovering by the close of market. In the current fiscal year (July-June 2021-22), the rupee has slumped 30.22% (or Rs47.62) to Rs205.16 compared to Rs157.54 on June 30, 2021. In his latest statement, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said the complete withdrawal of subsidies on petroleum products by July was a must to revive the IMF loan programme and avoid default on international payments. The stability in the rupee will only come once there is certainty about the staff-level agreement with the IMF.

In a major legal victory on an international front, Pakistan has won the terror-financing case against the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in a federal court in New York. Sharing the details, he said the case was handled by the International Disputes Unit of the Office of the Attorney General. Moreover, it was the same team that helped produce positive outcomes in the Karkey, Reko Diq, PIA and Tuwairqi cases. However, the AGP's legal wing that looks after international disputes has successfully resolved big awards against Pakistan through out-of-court settlements. Former CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s verdict in the Reko Diq case was the first in a series of events that led to the massive award.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday warned that the country’s democratic system would unravel if the PML-N-led coalition government was allowed to hold onto power any longer. Addressing a ceremony at K-P House in Islamabad, the former premier – who was muscled out of power in a parliamentary revolt earlier this year – said that democracy could not survive because a “turncoat” like Raja Riaz, a PTI dissident, has been appointed as opposition leader in the National Assembly. “If they stay in power, democracy cannot survive because a ‘turncoat’ Raja Riaz has been appointed Leader of Opposition [in the National Assembly].”He said the incumbent rulers were “destroying” all institutions of the county to rig the next elections and close down all corruption cases against them. The former premier said the United States “installed” the incumbent rulers into power because they can be controlled easily as their assets were stashed abroad. Likewise, my government was the first in the country’s history which opened shelter homes for labourers, he added.

ISLAMABAD: The Skardu administration banned the highly controversial head of University of Baltistan (BoU) in the city on the occasion of President Arif Alvi arrival in Skardu to attend convocation of the university on Tuesday. Last year, a number of female UOB students accused Dr Naeem of sexual harassment, irking the local residents who staged protests for his ouster from the city. However, after a gap of nearly a year, Dr. Naeem recently regained the post using his connections, causing resentment among the locals once again. As per the audit reports of the university the controversial VC has also committed financial irregularities/corruption during his three years long tenure. The President Arif Alvi, after getting informed about the illegality in the selection process, has reportedly withheld the appointment of VC UoB to date.

BAHAWALPUR – Traders staged a protest rally on Monday against blasphemy committed by leaders of the Bhartia Janta Party of India, under the auspices of Anjuman Tajraan Bahawalpur. The rally, led by senior trader leader Hafiz Younas, marched on the city roads. The participants of the rally had held banners and pamphlets with anti-India slogans. Addressing the rally, Hafiz Younas said that the so-called leaders of the Indian political party, Bhartia Janta Party (BJP) had committed blasphemy against our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He urged traders and the general public to boycott products and goods imported from India in order to pressurize the Indian government to take action against the elements responsible for such blasphemy.
