A Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) spokesman said they received reports of a garage fire in the suburb of Kew at approximately 3.45pm. A second alarm was raised and two additional trucks were sent from the Dunedin City and Roslyn stations. Crews were speaking with a fire investigator but it was unclear if one had attended the scene, the spokesman said.

There was an announcement that the concert, which was held at Claudelands Oval, was being stopped and people should get out and leave their belongings behind. The woman said it happened towards the end of the concert as Kerr was halfway through the band’s hit song Alive and Kicking. Newshub reported the facility that hosted the concert posted a message to Facebook urging attendees to evacuate.

ACT Party Leader David Seymour reiterated his stance and plans for “real change” from the new Government in his “state of the nation” address. Seymour also used his speech to thank those who put ACT at the Cabinet table for the first time, and said ACT’s ministers are wasting no time “delivering on the real change that you voted for”. As Associate Health Minister, Seymour said he is also responsible for making Pharmac the modern, efficient medical-tech agency it deserves to be, so Kiwis get their pharmaceuticals “like it’s a first world country”.
