The UK is set to pay Libya to prevent migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea “at the source” and to send them back to their home countries as part of a new deal with the country. The Attorney General’s Office reported today that the Tripoli Criminal Court issued a ruling to imprison five employees affiliated with the health sector for committing the crime of falsifying the data of workers in the centre for detecting suspected cases of Coronavirus. The five were imprisoned for periods ranging from six months to five years collecting material benefits amounting to LD 640,000. The convicted were obliging to return the amount to the public treasury and they were fined twice the amount.

Libya and Italy discussed the establishment of an Italian-Libyan hospital and medicine manufacturing at the stalled Qaddafi-era Al-Maya medicine factory. The discussions took place during a meeting yesterday between the Tripoli based Deputy Libyan Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Health, Ramadan Abu Janah, and Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, and his accompanying delegation, at the Ministry of Health’s Tripoli headquarters.
