International diplomacy to resolve the conflict in Libya has focused on pushing for parliamentary and presidential elections to replace the House of Representatives, the High Council of State and the GNU.

A tripartite meeting between the Heads of the Presidential Council and High Council of State, Mohammed Menfi and Mohammed Takala and the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aguila Saleh, will be held today in Cairo, according to what Bawabat Al-Wasat website reported, citing the Second Deputy Chairman of the High Council of State, Omar Al-Obeidi. Al-Obeidi said on Saturday that the meeting will be held on Sunday and it comes at the official invitation of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The anticipated meeting comes as UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily’s initiative to end the current political impasse has stalled.
