The panel was discussing latest revelations on the hospitals deal, after a joint investigation revealed former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is being probed by the police or his consultancy contract with a Swiss company that could have been used to disguise payments from the Vitals-Steward hospitals deal. “In 2016, it was Chris Fearne himself who requested an Auditor General investigation into the deal,” Attard said. “The AG is telling Robert Abela’s government to go after the money they stole from us,” he said.

The Libyan 6+6 Joint Committee for Preparation of Electoral Laws stressed Tuesday the need to form a unified government that paves the way for holding elections throughout the country. The committee, currently holding its meetings in Morocco, said in a statement that the next legislative authority is the National Assembly, which consists of two chambers; the House of Representatives and the Senate. The 6+6 Committee, composed of two committees from the House of Representatives and the State Council, indicated that the presidential and legislative elections will be held simultaneously. The joint committee added that its members agreed on issues related to the election of the head of state and members of the Legislative Council.

"I am not aware of any decision made" at NATO regarding the establishment of the office, Kishida told a Wednesday parliament session, adding his country was not planning to join NATO as a member or semi-member state. Kishida is arranging to attend a NATO summit scheduled to be held in Lithuania in July, Kyodo news agency reported later on Wednesday, citing Japanese government officials.

Rival Libyan groups reached an agreement on long-awaited presidential and legislative elections in the country during a meeting in the North African country of Morocco, which many see as a significant step toward ending years of chaos and instability. The Attorney General is yet to decide on whether or not to indict three men rescued at sea in 2019 by the container ship El Hiblu 1 on charges which include terrorist offences, a court has been told this morning. If indicted, the men will have to face a criminal trial before the superior courts and the prospect of imprisonment for life. The captain had claimed that the crew had locked themselves in the bridge as the migrants had acted aggressively. When the compilation of evidence continued this morning before magistrate Nadine Lia, the magistrate observed that the Office of the Attorney General had filed a note yesterday, asking for more time to decide whether to file a bill of indictment. The court therefore sent the acts of the case back to the Attorney General, with the case now being expected to continue in June.

The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) said Tuesday that Libya’s ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to international organizations, Osama Abdel-Hadi, discussed with an Austrian delegation, headed by the Director General of Vienna International Airport, the possibility of opening airspace, the return of air traffic between the two countries, and the operation of 3 flights per week. GNU said the possibility of opening airspace with Austria ‘‘was welcomed by the Austrian side, expressing its readiness to support this step, and implement it as quickly as possible’’. It added that this initiative comes after the Ministry of Transportation agreed, earlier, with its Maltese counterpart to resume air traffic between the two countries, as the first agreement related to European airspace.

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh will visit Rome in June, announced the premier himself yesterday. In the event, he visit the Italian pavilion and spoke with Romano Baruzzi, the director of the Italian Trade Agency’s office in Libya. “Next month I will come to Rome, God willing”, Dbeibeh said without specifying a date. Citing the spokesman for Dbeibeh ‘s government Mohamed Hamouda, Italian news agency Nova confirmed the news. “He is correct, there will be a visit, but I don’t know the timing yet,” Hamouda reportedly told Nova.

A person named Nidal Badr al-Din, affiliated with Saif Gaddafi, is the one who coordinated Al-Ghawil’s visit to Paris. Al-Ghwell met the French President’s advisor on Libyan affairs, Paul Soler, two days after his arrival. Al-Ghwell headed the “National Salvation Government” between 2015 and 2016, and was under European Union sanctions until 2021.

Minister of Housing of the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity, Abu Bakr Al-Ghawi hmet on Sunday with his Syrian counterpart Suhail Abdul Latif to discuss “means of cooperation in the fields of housing and opening the door for work and partnership between the Libyan and Syrian sides,” according to a statement by the Libyan ministry of housing. During the meeting, Al-Ghawi invited Abdul Latif to attend the Fifth Ministerial Forum for Housing and Development, which will be held in Tripoli, between 19th and 21st of December this year.
